slo sheriff flashSan Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for an overweight Filipino or Hispanic man who followed two women while driving in rural Arroyo Grande on Monday. The suspect reportedly asked one of the females what she would do if a stranger tried to kiss her.

At about 11:30 a.m., a woman reported a man driving either a silver or gray Kia Rio or Toyota Tercel in the area of Halcyon Road across from Cypress Ridge Parkway had followed her and made disturbing comments. The suspect stopped his car and told the woman, who was walking her dog, he wanted to speak to her, according to a  sheriff’s office press release.

After approaching the woman, the man began asking personal questions, including what she would do if a stranger tried to kiss her. The suspect said he was conducting a survey for school. The woman then broke off contact with the man, and he drove away.

About an hour and 20 minutes later, a woman who was running in the area of Halcyon Road and Zenon Way noticed a driver who followed and passed her three or four times. The car matched the description of the vehicle from the earlier incident.

The man then stopped the car and tried to contact the woman, but she ran away. The woman’s description of the man matched the description given by the previous woman.

Sheriff’s officials describe the suspect as being about 20 to 30 years old with dark, short hair. He was seen wearing prescription glasses, a t-shirt and a baseball cap.

Investigators request that anyone who has had contact with the man, or who sees the suspect or the car, contact the sheriff’s office at 805-781-4550.

This was either the most bizarre marketing ploy ever seen on the Central Coast-or the desperate attempt of a chubby man with poor social skills to seduce someone….anyone. Either way, it is nothing that could not be remedied by some pepper spray or a stun gun.
