SLO County supervisors clash over parks, roads and Del Campo

February 22, 2017

At another testy San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Lynn Compton won approval for four Nipomo park projects and Supervisors Debbie Arnold managed to get the county to make road maintenance one of its budget priorities. Additionally, the board appointed former KPRL radio host Dan Del Campo as Supervisor John Peschong’s planning commissioner.

During a hearing on the county’s five-year plan for capital improvement projects, Compton criticized the county for redirecting in-lieu fees required to be spent for the benefit of the residents of Nipomo. Part of the in-lieu fees raised from developments in Compton’s district went toward a bridge in Supervisor Bruce Gibson’s district and a bike path in District 3, which Supervisor Adam Hill represents.

Over a 10-year period, the South County generated $10.8 million in fees, while only $2 million was spent in the area, Compton said. Compton called for adding the construction of Jack Ready Imagination Park and Jim O. Miller Park to county’s infrastructure spending priorities. Compton likewise called for additions to Nipomo Community Park and Dana Adobe to be added to the spending list.

Gibson and Hill objected to Compton’s requests, but the board ultimately voted unanimously to approve the infrastructure plan with the South County park projects included. Approval of the plan, though, does not guarantee the county will spend money on the projects.

Arnold’s initiative to add road maintenance to the county’s budget priorities passed on a 3-2 vote with Gibson and Hill dissenting. Arnold has long been calling for the county to prioritized spending on roads.

Hill, who has previously clashed with Arnold over the issue, again argued the homeless are a major priority. Hill also said a drug detox center for the county jail and climate change adaptation ought to be spending priorities.

On a 4-1 vote, with Hill dissenting, the board of supervisors appointed Del Campo to the planning commission. Del Campo, a staunch conservative, recently left KPRL after six years of broadcasting at the North County radio station.

Hill said Del Campo does not belong on the planning commission because of the views he expressed on the radio, particularly pertaining to environmental issues. Peschong nominated Del Campo due in large part to his beliefs in smaller government and more personal freedom.

The abuse and condescension Gibson and Hill both show to Supervisors Compton and Arnold says more about them and how they feel about women than it does about their political beliefs. I’ve never seen such disrespect shown to any elected official or office holder as I saw at this meeting. Any woman who voted for either of these guys has made a huge mistake. Their lack of civility is stunning.

To qualify you must be a progressive best buds with Adam Hill and Bruce Gibson.

To qualify for anything you have to turn on anyone that is a republican.

To qualify you have to be a dirt bag according to our selfish minority on the board.

The entire country far left are trying to unmake an appointment or election.

Get over yourself.

Dan Del Campo is an awesome choice and one of the most informed individuals in this county.

My advise to him is a short cut, if Adam Hill and Bruce Gibson’s Planning Commissioners are voting one way you vote the other way!!!

What qualifications does del Campo have that he be on the planning commission?

Del Campo is no more or less qualified to be on the planning commission as each individual supervisor is qualified to be on the Board of Supervisors.

Just look at almost all elected officials and those appointed to commissions, very few if are even close to being qualified for their positions. Usually it comes down to what the most money was able to put into those positions to gain for their personal wants. Same old thing-just follow the money.

I seem to recall that Los Osos is very short on park space compared to the rest of the county. Whatever happened with that?

Looks like Little Napoleon and Half-pint are getting their comeuppance!

Interesting that Mr. ‘s Gibson and Hill are now crying foul and have taken to trying to spin the shell game that has been taking place for more than a few years with South County generated In-Lieu or PFF fees. Their new stance by decrying “potholes over people” is more than slightly hypocritical considering North County Bridges Over People, or Bike Paths Over People, or The Pismo Preserve Over People or the Bob Jones Trail Over People was more than okay just a short while ago when they had the majority on the Board Of Supervisors.

I suppose that Adam Hill would rather divert that money to the Dee Torres fund. it’s a “non-profit” you know. That is except for what she draws out of it.

Supervisor Hill, Please allow us to drive to work on decent roads as we slave away to fund your charity causes for the non-taxpayers. I know we’re not as sexy a cause as drug-addicted criminals or homeless projects (boondoggle). I promise you we will continue to pay taxes if we can just get to work in one piece.

So the tool know as Hill objects to differing opinions (doesn’t agree on environment). How are people so stupid to keep voting this P.O.S. into office?

A “well done” to Supervisor Compton and a “shame on you” to Adam Hill. Anybody interested in mounting a recall campaign against Hill on July 1, 2017 after he has been in office for 6 months? He has totally lost the respect of his peers and his effectiveness in representing the Third District…

How would you get the people of his district to attend? I wonder what they are hearing down there? Why in the world would they re-elect him after all his drama? Have the people not heard of his antics or do they just not care?

I seem to remember that Hill won by a relatively wide margin. Maybe the people there can’t stand the man, but apparently they like how he votes.

When you have the old-timers with influence and money supporting you anything is possible. Shirley Bianchi (prior supervisor of District 2 and mentor to Gibson) has 110% supported Brucie financially, associations, regardless of his moral issues, divorce, affair with his assitant, etc. Brucie, the supervisor of District 2 since 2007, has lived off in on in his district, is a Democrat, environmentalist and friend of elites and that is what matters. Go to his website and you have to love how he recognizes his love in piece of fluff that we are paying for… “My Legislative Assistant is Cherie McKee, and together we look forward to working with you …”
