Conservative speaker to draw crowd and protest at Cal Poly

May 24, 2017

Lauren Southern in Dresden, Germany

In what could make for a confrontation between conservatives and members of the group Antifa, the Cal Poly College Republicans are scheduled to host activist-journalist Lauren Southern on Thursday.

Southern is a Canadian conservative with libertarian leanings who is a vocal critic of feminism and mass immigration. She is due to deliver a speech on the Cal Poly campus at an event dubbed “The Return of the Traditional Woman.”

Formerly a reporter and and commentator for conservative Canadian news agency The Rebel, Southern is the author of “Barbarians: How Baby Boomers, Immigrants and Islam Screwed My Generation.” Recently, Southern attended the “Battle for Berkeley,” where fighting broke out between free speech activists and Antifa members.

Protesters are organizing a march against Southern, which is expected to take place before she speaks at Cal Poly Thursday evening. Several student groups, including the Cal Poly Democrats, are promoting the “March Against Rape Culture.” Also, a post in an online forum is calling on antifascists from across California to mobilize in San Luis Obispo on Thursday.

Earlier this year, the College Republicans hosted controversial speaker Milo Yiannopoulos at an event that required dozens of officers and thousands of dollars to police. The event at Cal Poly occurred peacefully, but the following night a riot stopped Yiannopoulos from speaking at UC Berkeley.

“Today conservatives are repeatedly accused of repression,” the College Republicans stated in a Facebook post promoting the Southern event. “The claim that all right-leaning individuals are racist, homophobic, xenophobic fascists is completely false and atrocious. The Cal Poly College Republicans will not stand by the wayside as people around the world are brutally attacked for their beliefs.”

A Facebook post promoting the protest against Southern states she is a “rape culture apologist.”

“Alt-right star and rape culture denier Lauren Southern will be coming to our campus with her bigoted agenda that attacks women, people of color, trans folks and undocumented people.”

Thursday’s event is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. in room 286 of the Fisher Science building. Tickets are limited, and the College Republicans is requesting attendees fill out a survey in order to get seats.

“Feminism” is a PC word for sexism.

I always thought it was “fairness for the ugly.”

Young people attending school today can see what trouble comes from a huge federal government. They are borrowers of that huge government and they are in a unique situation to see how harmful a huge authority can be.

Libertarian thinking is becoming attractive to them and thus she should get a big crowd.

Free speech frightens the left for they can’t handle the truth.

I don’t know if it’s the truth they can’t handle (after all, what really is the truth?); rather, I think they cannot handle challenge.

The only reason you think they are “unable to control their desire to create antagonism” is because that’s what’s been drilled into your head by years of rightwing hate.

Amazing how the real haters (now suffering from TDS-Trump Derangement Syndrome) wear black and riot over fake news and Liberal lies…

Two points: 1. We need to rip off the face coverings of these punks and expose them. Like they did to that punk up North who turned out to be a college lecturer. He had thrown a heavy metal bike lock on the head of a Trump supporter and caused a serious injury. The punk lecturer is now facing a criminal charge. We know these punks are mostly white, middle class kids living at home with mom and dad. They need to be held responsible for their actions.

2. Why is it conservative women are so darn good looking? Lauren Southern is fine, something we NEVER attach to liberal women. Never. Usually Vultures are easier on the eye than liberal women.

3. ( bonus) When did left wingers become deluded fascists based on the righteousness of their cause(s)?

A woman’s level of “feminism ” is (generally) inversely proportional to her attractiveness (inside and out).

If you look at the world through goggles with the right tint to them you get the kind of over-blown broad generalizations you just posted. There are jerks on both sides of this debate. Would you do the same to conservatives because of the neo-Nazis on their side?

Labeling everyone whose views differs from yours as “extremists” because a few of them are — a tactic straight from the propaganda machine of Rush Limbaugh. Repeat it often enough and some people start accepting it as truth. (This is why I stopped listening to him early on in his career. I was interested in his points of view but this negated any legitimacy they had from my perspective.)

Freedom of speech is always under attack by Fascist mentality, which exists in all parts of the world, unfortunately.

Freedom of expression and freedom of speech aren’t really important unless they’re heard. The freedom of hearing is as important as the freedom of speaking.

That’s nice. And all left-leaning people are branded as bleeding hearts, libtards, and snowflakes.

The answer lies in the middle, and that’s where most people really stand, anyway.

“Also, a post in an online forum is calling on antifascists from across California to mobilize in San Luis Obispo on Thursday”

By showing up with bandanas covering their faces, causing a ruckus and attempting to prevent this event, are they not the fascists?

Incredulous1, when you say “…I’m just making the factual point that the reason for these speaking tours is simply to create antagonism with a hope that someone(s)…” are you referring to Maxine Waters and Nancy Polosi? Both seem to be unable to control their desire to create antagonism.

The door swings both ways.

I love to read the comments following articles that bring up conservative speakers. The leftist comments are always the hate filled fascism trying to shut down the right’s viewpoints.
