SLO Mayor Heidi Harmon misinterprets LA Times article

Mayor Heidi Harmon

By KAREN VELIE

Touting the benefits of electric-only homes, San Luis Obispo Mayor Heidi Harmon released a video Tuesday morning that features a Los Angeles Times article on pollution associated with gas appliances. However, Harmon failed to explain that the article referred to improperly vented gas appliances, and not all gas stove usage.

Harmon, who worked previously as a maid and as an assistant at a preschool, plans to help the community “understand the full breadth and depth” of using gas appliances at Tuesday evenings City Council meeting, she said. Michael Hicks, a contractor with Peoples’ Self-Help Housing, supports Harmon’s assertion that banning gas appliances is needed to protect public health.

“I don’t think people realize, I didn’t, that when you have a gas stove, for example, you are polluting your own home,” Harmon says, while a photo of the LA Times article, “Cook with a gas stove? You could be breathing polluted air, study says,” appears on the video.”

According to the study, scientists with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found that 62 percent of households using gas burners without venting range hoods are exposed to excessive levels of nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and formaldehyde. While the levels do not exceed air quality standards, they can exacerbate health issues.

“Luckily, there are simple ways to limit your exposure,” according to the LA Times article. “First, use a range hood. Even a moderately effective one will substantially cut concentrations of pollutants in your home,’ researchers said. ‘Cooking on the back burners can help too, because they sit directly under the ventilation system.”

If the people of SLO buy into this garbage they deserve to see their electric bills skyrocket. The political people in Slo are totally incompetent to make decisions for the people and they say everyone of the citizens in Slo are for this then as stated before put it to a vote. What kind of lunetic scheme will they come up with next. Maybe they should require all the contractors who are doing work in SLO to use only electric operated equipment as they are adding dangerous pollution to the people that are walking around the downtown. Government at work got to love the future socialism.

The stove ordinance passed 4 to 1.

So its not just Heidi. Its all of them.

Liberalism is a disease.

And what would you call today’s version of conservatism? Oh yea, a pandemic of perversion and lies brought on by patient #1, Trump The Pervert!

Liberalism is not a disease . . . stupidity is!

Shared within every political dogma, no matter the party!

I’m all for freedom of religion But, they are imposing their Climate Change religious beliefs on folks that hold other spiritual beliefs or folks capable of seeing through the smoke and mirrors that possess just plain common sense.

Climate change isn’t a religion. It’s not based on plagiarized material from thousands of sources from thousands of years ago, it doesn’t have some fake god to pray to, it isn’t followed by ignoramuses that think faith is better than fact, it isn’t based on lies that have absolutely no merit or proof, and, most of all? Man accelerated climate change is a fact!

Here’s some proof…

What else do you need? A message from your god? Yea, wait on that and in the mean time it just gets worse…

From your other posts you portray yourself as currently live in Medford Oregon and have been a homeless person in the past. Maybe you have some insight on that subject, but you are clueless about energy use in SLO county.

Those “ignoramuses” you have insulted raise families, do the hospice work and probably fed you from their soup kitchen. It must be lonely you have no greater purpose.

Antarctica has larger ice mass than the Artic and Antarctica has picked up the ice mass that the Artic has lost.

The tragedy here is that SLO Council and Heidi didn’t bother to ask any of the 3,000 present and retired PG&E’ers and SoCalGas’ers that live here in SLO County about the systems and today’s possible power mix. If not for Diablo, the SLO electric system wouldn’t have been fortified in the early 70’s and have been kept in overall better shape than most other non-bay area jurisdictions. I’ve got 36 years of PG&E experience and can draw the entire coastal electric transmission system from memory from Buellton to Bonny Doon. I’ll go out on a limb and state I am in the top 10 people that have knowledge of both the electric transmission and distribution systems in here SLO county. The CPUC engineers have my cell number and have consulted with me on how Paso Sub got configured in 2000 and the new proposed Estrella Sub. In my last year before retiring, I supervised all 4 electric distribution control centers in the immediate S.F., Oakland, Concord, & Novato areas. I know who the critical customers are on the coast and how to BlackStart the electric system which solar and wind cannot do. I also have numerous certifications as a Human Performance Investigator and was the lead investigator on the June 23rd 2013 outage to 161K SLO and S/Maria area customers. Nonetheless, when my PG&E power was out for 50 hours in Feb 2017 off the Oceano 1102 circuit, I ran my generator.

A victim mentality makes you susceptible to suggestions and skewed facts from liberals that want power and the government to control everything. It’s easy for liberals to just add another 10 year renewal of the Al Gore climate agenda to grab power from folks that dwell in victim-hood. To get out of the Victim Loop, you need to use gratitude as a Tool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk6iwf7VkVA

I was born in SLO, lived there for years, moved from there and have moved back on several occasions and now live in Medford, OR You forgot to mention that I’m also an ex-con and convicted felon, so I’m really no-one to listen to, right?

Wow, all that experience, really? And with PG&E? So you’re part of the problem(s), right? What problem(s)?

2018 Camp Fire

2015 Butte Fire

2014 Carmel Gas Explosion

2010 San Bruno Gas Explosion

2009 San Francisco Electrical Explosion

2008 Rancho Cordova Gas Explosion

2005 San Francisco Electrical Fire

2004 Sims Fire and Fred’s Fire

2003 Substation Electrical Fires

1999 Pendola Fire

1996 Substation Electrical Fires

1994 Trauner Fire

1952-1966 Hinkley groundwater contamination

Did I miss anything from PG&E’s well documented history of incompetence, some of which were of the criminal variety, which you were part of? All of which caused people to lose their lives, caused injuries and damaged property while costing the end user of your “product” rate increases every frickin’ time, because of course the billions of dollars spent of settlements are passed right back to your customers, right?

I’d guess you’d have some insight as to what a victim truly is as the company you worked for, and vehemently support, has victimized tens-of-thousands over the years, right?

What “greater purpose” do you think I should have? Not to a greater god that leaves millions starving, homeless, occupied, murdered, raped, pilfered and ignored yearly, right? How ’bout to speak truth to religious dogma that has murdered and enslaved billions for two purposes, money and power?

As to your one “proof” of the climate change/global warming “lie”:

“A new NASA-led study has determined that an increase in snowfall accumulation over Antarctica during the 20th century mitigated sea level rise by 0.4 inches. However, Antarctica’s additional ice mass gained from snowfall makes up for just about a third of its current ice loss.

“Our findings don’t mean that Antarctica is growing; it’s still losing mass, even with the extra snowfall,” said Brooke Medley, a glaciologist with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and lead author of the study, which was published in Nature Climate Change on Dec. 10. “What it means, however, is that without these gains, we would have experienced even more sea level rise in the 20th century.”

“The polar ice sheets grow via snow accumulation and shrink through melting and the production of icebergs. Presently, both ice sheets are imbalanced –losing more ice annually than they are gaining– and their ice loss is estimated to be currently causing about a half of the observed sea level rise. Sea level adjusts to changes in snowfall, which modulates how much water is locked into the ice sheets.”

Ignorance is curable, remember that!

She would be reelected .. Thats how liberal this city has become.

I’m so sick of these nut balls telling us how bad some things are, take for instance the air resource board on diesel particuite matter, diesel smoke, this is about the same thing that nutball harmon is toting about gas appliances in the home, if this polution was so bad people would be dropping dead like flies, I don’t seem to notice a big death rate among heavy equipment operators and farmers, these guys have lived into their 80’s and 90’s and they were breathing diesel smoke and eating dust all their lives, all this noise about some of this stuff is just propaganda for other motives, mainly money in someone’s pocket.

This should help knock the cover off the mayor’s screw ball:

Perhaps two concerned citizens could combine their public comment time and get it on the record an appropriate agenda city, county or state meeting. After hearing and or viewing the 4 minute piece of the pie, those two citizen’s would have 2 minutes left to speak.

Come on Karen, you can do better than this.

Disparaging maids and pre-school assistant’s in an attempt to show Heidi is full of BS does not add value to your argument. It just belittles working people as though they have no value. Or capability to learn as they go through life. A good debating tactic perhaps, but not a journalistic one.

A representative government requires elected officials to make decisions on our behalf. Do you really think elected officials are subject matter experts on all things they vote on? Your article would imply just that.

You set the bar for Calcoast. I think you should raise it higher than personal disparagement.

Well gee..she couldn’t even interpret the article correctly. It really dossent single out anybody as a group, just the McMayor. Maybe she was so excited to spread some more fake news she got confused. On the other hand maybe she’s a simpleton with little comprehension of what she reads or see’s. Like they say, opinions vary.

Thanks for proving my point about name calling.

Read that last sentence SNOID. What does it mean to you?

Even vented systems do not capture all the pollutants. Why else do they recommend using the back burner?

I am not sure if you all, including Karen, interpreted the article correctly.

Pot meet the black kettle.

The story shows her total lack of qualifications to be taking on the entire tech system and the economy, and claiming she has the one and only solution for survival. A liberal studies CPSu degree doesn’t provide one with that background, nor does her work history. Yet she thinks she knows more than actual experts, who if they’re over 40 or not part of SLO Progressives are systematically ignored by this council.

Is Heidi going rogue from the Air Polution Control Board. The APCB as a resource or an APCB goal being met aren’t listed in their slide show.

Councilwoman Erica Stewart indirectly came up with the best solution just now at the meeting I’m watching online. Instead of a penalty fee to include natural gas in your building, have the MBCP pay an incentive to those potential electric customers to build all electric. Isn’t MBCP the entity that benefits the most financially by this Reach Code?

Yes MBCP is the sole beneficiary. Use of the term “Reach Code” lets me know that you know what you’re talking about. Please contact me at my CCN handle and Bill Gates’ email service.

The Propaganda Queen!

It will take years to un-do the policy messes that these people will leave behind… they really are “true believers” lost in themselves.

Great comment but it may NEVER be undone. That’s the problem. If a wise electorate replaced them and the new council rescinded this council, then judge-shopped liberal judge(s) will invalidate the voter will and thereby invalidate any move back towards sensible practices.

This effective liberal strategy started with the 1980’s public-benefits lawsuit invalidating the will of millions of California voters by U.S. District Judge Marianna Pfaelzer who obstructed a popular and victorious Proposition, and said she “needed time to study”. It sat for years on her bench, the progressives won via her seizing the future of California, and of course the Ninth Circuit never reversed her heresy.
