San Luis Obispo protesters smash glass on 4-year-old child

Participants in a Black Lives Matter protest in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday turned violent smashing a car window onto a four-year-old child and damaging the hood of the car. Protesters repeatedly refused to let people walk or drive where they wanted to go, at times screaming profanities.

Near the end of the protest, San Luis Obispo police officers arrested 20-year-old Tianna Isis Arata, the organizer of the protest, and 22-year-old Elias Bautista.

After the City of San Luis Obispo learned Arata was planning a protest, Police Chief Deanna Cantrell contacted Arata who claimed the event at Mitchell Park would be peaceful, police said. As a result, the city did not have officers blocking entrances to the highway.

Shortly after 5 p.m., approximately 300 protesters marched through the downtown area. The protesters then walked onto Highway 101, blocking all lanes in both directions for nearly an hour. While on the freeway, protesters smashed the rear window of a car with a 4-year-old child in the back seat. Glass shattered on the boy.

Protesters marched back onto city streets, confronting drivers along the way. Protesters stopped and surrounded a vehicle at Monterey Street and California Boulevard. Protesters also chased several other vehicles as they marched.

The protesters then stopped to watch Arrata toss a partially burnt American flag on the ground and stomp on it.

In a video Arrata posted on Instagram, Chief Cantrell texts Arata during the march to tell her about the broken window and that, “Trust goes both ways Tianna.”

“F**K Deanna,” Tianna responded.

Officers arrested Arata shortly after the protest concluded.

 

Officers booked Arata in the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of participation in a riot, unlawful assembly, conspiracy, unlawful imprisonment and resisting arrest. The decision to arrest Arata was made in coordination with the District Attorney’s Office, police said.

During the arrest of Arata, Bautista allegedly assaulted a police officer, who suffered minor injuries. Officers booked Bautista in the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of attempting to deter an officer from doing his job, and for attempting to take a person from the lawful custody of a peace officer.

Wild guess here, but willing to put money on every single person full of anger themselves and expressing it here, denying that Black persons suffer any sort of discrimination to be angry about are, themselves WHITE. Just a wild guess. “Let he who is without fault cast the first stone.” Seem to remember that from somewhere.

Oh Fran, there you go again with the RACE thing? Maybe I missed a comment but I didn’t see anyone who commented – denying that Black persons haven’t suffered discrimination. AND, WHY should it matter about a commentor’s skin color when most people are outraged/angered by the obnoxious, misguided, hateful actions of the so-called leader of the Protest. She and her followers are casting that large net over ALL POLICE. How would it go over if others were to say that just because there are BAD BLACKS who kill each, are in gangs, etc….then ALL BLACK people must be that way. WHICH is NOT the case! I still say the message of BLM is being lost/overshadowed by this latest hateful and ill-informed Messenger and her followers.

I wonder what type of violence white Americans might be inclined to perpetrate if they owned only 10% of the wealth of black Americans? My sense is that it would be far more violent than simply discomforting a 4-year old or blocking traffic.

Everything is about wealth. Police brutality is simply a function of wealth exerting its dominance. Read the following paragraph and tell me it isn’t as true today as it was in the 19th century.

Until African-Americans, who are just as responsible as whites for building one of the greatest nations in history, are rewarded for that blood and sweat I simply don’t care if a 4-year old child of privilege has a few shards of harmless glass thrown their way. By the way, you can thank Ralph Nader and liberal politicians for the fact that U.S. automobiles are required to use that harmless glass.

You really are going to defend violence against a 4 year old? Really?


I don’t support ANY violence. What happened in 1921 was inexcusable. That happened to the 4 year old is also inexcusable. To defend it cancels you and the cause you support. Peaceful protests, articulate voices, cameras on the abuses of power. You won’t need to throw a single brick. One video like George Floyd crying for his mother is more powerful than 1000 bricks. I don’t know how to make this any clearer.

Well… they could if the FBI or Kentucky Attorney General’s Office concludes their investigation of the events surrounding the service of a no knock search warrant, issued by a judge, and finds the officers acted outside the scope of the law.

One officer was fired. They should all really be fired for no body cams. That whole ordeal was appalling. I don’t think anyone will disagree with you. Breonna and her boyfriend were working people asleep in their home. The police come him shooting wildly, stray bullets going in to a neighboring apartment! So yeah, most of us “privileged” folks are disgusted too. If the police, which are being investigated by the FBI, are determined to be criminally at fault, they SHOULD go to jail. And the City NEEDS TO PAY. If Breonna was my sister, I would sue too. I would be standing outside the police station every day with a sign and pictures.


You are getting thumbs down because cop violence is bad. So is people violence. Every day people do not have the privilege of marching downtown and blocking traffic during COVID-19 season in the MOST expensive area of the USA when you factor cost of living VS pay. I don’t have the PRIVILEGE of being a SLOSTUDENT. Must be nice.
