Is Camp Roberts preparing to house 1,500 migrant children?

In an attempt to alleviate overcrowding at detention centers on the border, President Joe Biden is seeking to house unaccompanied migrant children on military bases, which could include Camp Roberts, which is located in San Luis Obispo and Monterey counties.

While inside sources provide details regarding a plan to house 1,500 children on the base, officials at Camp Roberts, the California Military Department, the U.S. Department of Defense all responded to questions by saying the information about housing migrant children needed to come from another agency. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed plans to house children on military bases, but did not respond to questions about Camp Roberts.

Camp Roberts is in line to provide shelter for boys and girls ages 4 to 18, in National Guard barracks, said several sources who asked to remain anonymous. It is expected the children will arrive on the Central Coast within the next two weeks.

Both the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and multiple state agencies will be tasked with meeting the children’s needs such as food, clothing, medical and education.

While details are not available regarding COVID-19 testing for the children allegedly headed to Camp Roberts, the 500 migrant children who arrived at Fort Bliss in Texas yesterday were tested for coronavirus before their trip and will be tested every three days afterwards, according to Stars and Stripes. With large numbers of unaccompanied migrant children crammed in border facilities, about 14% are testing positive for coronavirus.

I hope those children don’t have to spend the summer at Camp Roberts. It literally is hotter than Hades out there.

Watching this all unfold on the news, my wife and I can’t help but wonder what kind of person turns their child over to the drug cartels to march through the desert and over the border, only to be abandoned in the middle of the desert and then rounded up by the Border Patrol and placed in overcrowded warehouses?

You’ve got to be a special kind of desperate to do that. We’ve concluded that it constitutes child abuse on several levels.

One reporter standing on the banks of the Rio Grande River was saying that the night before, using night vision goggles, they counted 200 people being smuggled over a narrow bend in the river, and the Coyotes charge $2,500 each.

By my calculations, that’s $500,000 the cartels got just from those rafts of people, that one night, in that one location on a border that is like 1,500 miles long!

And there’s no telling how much drugs these people are being made to carry across the border. Drugs that are literally killing people every day..

This won’t stop until the cartels run out of people to smuggle in, or the government puts an end to it. And I’m afraid that might mean sending in the U.S. Marines.

Yes, this has been going on for decades, but not like this. Not to the degree of depravity these cartels have, and the complete disregard for human life they display.

And those two bastards who dropped the 3 and 5 year olds off the top of the 17-foot border fence to fend for themselves, I don’t think I have ever been more appalled or pissed off at something I saw on TV.

I hope the two SOBs that did that rot in Hell.

Done some work out there contracting with the feds……you have no idea what a money wasting, incompetent, joke the federal gov. is.

Speaking as a member of the CAARNG for about 15 years and counting, I have difficulty thinking of a place less suitable for children than Camp Roberts, and I speak from intimate knowledge of the place. There are no facilities for kids. There is no hospital or decent medical clinic of any kind. Even the old SRP site is broken down and barely suited for the very limited functions it provides. There is no building really suitable as a school, none that can handle 1500 kids. The theater is pretty decrepit, unheated/cooled and very spartan. There certainly is no playground, and even the so-called “sports field” across the street from the little PX is a crappy track and a gopher village with some tufts of grass. Unless they’ve renovated some of the little chow halls near the barracks buildings, the main chow hall is over half a mile from the barracks and it gets crowded with 400-500 Soldiers. The barracks are designed for Soldiers; the showers are communal. They used to have open toilets and trough urinals but at least they renovated the latrines to a better standard. But this is a facility designed to train Soldiers for combat. The place is bleak and it’s a monument to deferred maintenance and the low priority that the State legislature places on Guard facilities. They’re only now starting to address the issues with the three big bases and the 59 or so armories around the State. The only upside I can see is that maybe members of the public will see the real state of this place and reflect upon the fact that thousands of California Guard members (and foreign troops, by the way) train at this dump every year and maybe do something about it. Compared to Guard facilities in other states, e.g. Utah, it’s literally an embarrassment. There’s no infrastructure suitable for children there and if they want to house them there they’ll need to build it. I guess we’ll find out.

This is pretty much how the CMC began. The state back-doored a prison at a surplus military hospital, and the rest is history.

Allow this to take root, and it’s never going to leave. The eventual impact to the North County is going to be harsh. Count on it.

Stand by this is going to get worse. Check out what DHS has done to Riverside County with the housing of these illegal aliens at their military facilities. They are housing adults and children. The local counties are being expected to provide schooling and medical care without any federal reimbursement. Even worse, once they are delivered to the facility neither the local police or the military can keep them on the base. The illegal aliens are walking off the base and disappearing into the local communities, some with active Covid infections.

The feds tried the same thing in 2014 in Murrietta and when residents blocked the roads to the facilities where the illegals were going to be kept the border patrol buses turned around. Maybe we need to do the same thing here.

With the new immigrant tax that Bidden will be passing by executive order, we can save money by using surplus military building, a great idea? Also, with the new trillions for infrastructure funding, these surplus buildings will be upgraded to living standards that include the necessary sewage plants to meet all state and federal public health standards. Who knows, maybe there will be special loan packages so that the immigrants can buy into these new housing projects? Are you incensed yet? Hold that thought for the next election.

“Election” I seem to remember something about those in the distant past
