Gov. Gavin Newsom pulls his kids from camp with no mask enforcement

California Gov. Gavin Newsom removed two of his children from a summer basketball camp after photos surfaced showing campers, including one of Newsom’s sons, not wearing masks while indoors.

Earlier this month, the state of California released new guidelines requiring that masks be worn indoors in K-12 schools, childcare facilities and other youth settings. However, the youth basketball camp announced in an email sent to parents, including the Newsom family, that it would not enforce a mask requirement.

Newsom’s decision to send his two sons to the basketball camp is drawing rebuke from critics.

“Photos posted to Instagram reveal Gavin Newsom’s 10-year-old son with other kids maskless, indoors and not distancing at a basketball summer camp, even while spectating,” the group Reopen California Schools stated in a tweet. “This is in clear violation of his own mask mandates. Why can his kid be maskless, but not ours?”

A spokesperson for the governor responded by saying the Newsom family overlooked an email they received from the camp saying it would not enforce mask guidance. The Newsoms were concerned to see unvaccinated children not wearing masks indoors at a camp his children had just begun attending, and they removed their kids from the camp, the spokesperson said in a statement.

The latest mask controversy comes as recent polls show Newsom is more at risk than previously thought of being recalled in California’s Sept. 14 recall election.

I am always impressed by the tireless, if inane, trolling I see on this site. No matter what he did, if the story featured Newsom, ya’ll would find a spin to call it wrong. The reaching for a reason to mock is so extreme sometimes that I wonder how you can present it as your opinion. Then I remember that no one is using their actual name when saying these usually baseless, shallow and mean spirited comments, thus feeling safe, as there will be no consequences for appearing to lack cognitive functions.


Can you not even imagine them missing an email, considering that their lives are obviously much busier than yours? They saw their children being exposed at an establishment they had up to that point trusted and they removed them from that environment and brought them home. I would have hated my parents for not protecting me in that way.


But I can see why ya’ll would want to criticize that action, given that you are all helping the rest of us to enjoy (NOT) yet another round of Covid by insisting on an anti-vaxx, no mask policy to prolong the damage to our society to the maximum that can be achieved by nihilistic stupidity.


Don’t let me stop ya. You’re on a roll…….

Now, you are suddenly aghast that your children were at a camp that told every other parent they wouldn’t enforce your mandate, because you, your family, and your staff somehow “missed the Email”.

Spot on! We elected people on both sides who all they do is pit us against each other while they do for them not us. We elect them to solve issues and work with each other to solve those issues. Solutions start with a conversation and end in a compromise no side is a 100% right and both republicans and democrats need to stop cramming partisan policies and laws down everyone’s throats when they have the majority. All it does is cause divisiveness between us, the citizens, they are supposed to work for. Until the people of this country come together and demand better of our politicians our democracy will only erode further. We still (for the time being) have control with our vote but we must use it. Make them work for us like they’re supposed to and use your vote to keep them honest it is the most powerful tool we have.

This tells me he is going to shut us down and mask us up again….I could be wrong but I bet I’m not…the democrats like the last election and how it was done by mail…massive mailout ballots….I think they are laying the ground work to be able to do that again….
