One man is dead and another is in jail following a fatal hit-and-run crash in Paso Robles on Saturday morning, police said.

Shortly before 2 a.m., a caller reported a gray vehicle had crashed into a pedestrian at the intersection of Meadowlark Road and Deer Springs Drive. The driver then fled and was last seen traveling eastbound on Meadowlark Road.

While officers were headed to the crash site, the caller reported a second vehicle — a dark colored BMW — ran over the pedestrian. The second driver also fled the scene.

At the intersection, officer discovered a unresponsive, 22-year-old man. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two hours later, officers located a black BMW, with evidence of a collision, parked in the 900 block of Running Stag Way. Officers arrested 32-year-old Christopher Winters on a charge of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury and booked him in the San Luis Obispo County Jail with his bail set at $50,000.

Officers are waiting until the victim’s next of kin is informed before they release his name. Police are not yet releasing information on the initial hit-and-run driver.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the fatal crash to contact the Paso Robles Police Department at (805) 237-6464.

Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all uncontrolled intersections, “controlled” meaning “signalized”, aka lights. This is, of course, ignored, particularly in “God’s Country” where they would make the running over of pedestrians and cyclists legal if they could. So the guy got run over by not one, but two cars, both drivers probably DUI, but not provable the next morning. They’ll get off easy.

Could be the pedestrian was on drugs or booze.

Two cars involved and this happened to a pedestrian at 2 am in a residential neighborhood? There’s more to this story than meets the eye.

I agree Ralph, the suspect lived 1 block away from the collision and the victim is just randomly walking on a dark road at 2am where he could’ve been on the sidewalk. There is more to this story.

I agree with Ralph and Jon…. there’s more to this story. The victim had information on Tommy Gong throwing the election in the county, also secret money being funneled to Gavin Newsome’s campaign from Adam Hills estate. Don’t forget Antifa and BLM has a connection here somewhere.

So being a pedestrian at 2am is suspicious but driving at 2am is fine? Maybe the pedestrian had a few drinks and wanted to avoid getting a DUI by walking. Maybe he was crossing the street when he got hit. Why should he get grief for that?

Probably two drunk drivers.
