Man facing 3 life sentences for killing Santa Barbara doctor, family

Pierre Haobsh

A Southern California man is slated to receive three life sentences without the possibility of parole after a judge convicted him on Wednesday of murdering a Santa Barbara doctor, as well as the doctor’s wife and daughter.

In March 2016, Pierre Haobsh of Oceano shot and killed Dr. Weidong Henry Han, 57; Huijie “Jennie” Yu, 29; and Emily Han, 5. Sheriff’s deputies found the victims’ bodies inside the family’s home in the 4600 block of Greenhill Way between Santa Barbara and Goleta.

Following a bench trial, Santa Barbara County Superior Judge convicted Haobsh, 31, of three counts of murder, along with enhancements for committing murder for financial gain, committing multiple murders and intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury. Haobsh, whom the prosecution painted as a fraudster, was involved in a business deal with Dr. Han prior to the triple-murder.

Dr. Han owned the Santa Barbara Herb Clinic, where he practiced Chinese medicine and operated an herbal pharmacy. Han was born into a family of doctors in China, and he had a background in both western and Chinese herbal medicine. Han authored several books, in addition to operating the Santa Barbara Herb Clinic from 1991 until his death.

Haobsh’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 24, 2022.

Pierre Haobsh was a resident of Oceanside, not Oceano.

There wasn’t a jury.

His choice right?

In a sense. Haobsh waived his right to a jury trial in exchange for the District Attorney’s Office taking the death penalty off the table. Probably a smart move.

Good. I hope he never sees another day of freedom. It was so refreshing to hear the jury that convicted him was not identified by their race or gender in the media. My we return to that in every trial.

Um, the jury that convicted him wasn’t identified at all because there was NO JURY. That’s the meaning of “bench trial”, commonsenseguy.
