Morro Bay City Council adopts resolution supporting reproductive rights

January 28, 2022

By KAREN VELIE

The Morro Bay City Council voted 4-1 on Tuesday to adopt a resolution supporting reproductive rights. Councilman Heller dissented arguing the resolution was politically motivated.

The council brought forth the resolution in response to a restrictive Texas law that bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy.

The Morro Bay resolution affirms the right of women under Roe v. Wade to obtain an abortion. Supporters of the resolution spoke of the need to empower and protect the constitutional rights of women. Opponents argued it is a devise issue in which the council has no oversight.

Why is a city council from a small community addressing a divisive national issue?

Absolutely ridiculous! Addis has infected the rest of council with her brand of progressive “wokism”

How about a resolution supporting law and order and those in that business?

Regardless, of whether or not you agree with pro choice or pro life, this is way way way beyond the purview of a city Council.

Pitiful and shallow

The Morro Bay City Council is a wannabe woke group. First they dipped their toes into the January 6 riot in Washington DC and now this. They should instead stick to addressing the local issues that you were voted to address such as homelessness and improving the Embarcadero.

Do they really understand with this sinful and senseless resolution, what they are condoning? I pray for the precious lives of the 62 million that this kind of mindset has already taken in this nation.

Wouldn’t it be much more appropriate for this city council to address the increase in crime along with the prolific drug problem that are infecting your city? What about the Constitutional rights of the citizens in your city that you are failing to protect while ignorantly passing a resolution that holds no water or meaning other than make a few individuals feel good about themselves.

Those who profess to be wise, are proven to be fools. I now know four of them on the Morro Bay city council.

So, if abortion is made illegal, what happens to a woman who has one? Jail, probation, ankle monitor, hysterectomy? I’m old enough to remember girls virtually disappearing after it was rumored they were pregnant—some of them died having back alley abortions. I mean, I’m against abortion, but I just don’t see how you legislate what a woman does with her body.

do you really think if a woman is distress would come to Morro Bay to get an abortion? Everybody here is 80….Morro Bay is the last stop before heaven…..there are more oxygen tanks here than are on the international space station…you cant even buy socks in morro bay….because everybodys feet are already blue!! thank you and good night….remember there is a two drink minimum!!

24 down votes, but no answers to my question. I will assume then that you must agree with Trump, who said, yes, in an interview with Chris Matthews, the woman needs to go to jail.

Dude you are dealing with puritans here so pillories and stocks for all of the out of wedlock mothers.

Also remember no health care, cut food stamps, keep min wage low, no child care (and more) is the gop way and the American Taliban support this with every election, make war, punish the “sinners”, then claim the “high” ground.

Some people just want to see the world burn.

Divisive!

Love this. So nice that the city is sending out a nice positive message on behalf of the voters. While they may not have oversight on the issue, having our representatives affirm the mood of the city is great.

Really? The mood of the city is what? If the mood of the city is to promote what this eventually leads to, please explain the positive in the loss of those precious lives.

The mood of the city is pro-choice, pro-science, and anti theocratic dogmatism. This is reflected in the people we elect to city council.

If you don’t like it, feel free to move to Alabama, Iran, or Afghanistan where your view would fit in better.

What a waste of time! What responsibility do they have to stick to issues actually concerning Morro Bay? Julie?? We need you on this one!

I can;t believe they actually voted on this?

This is such a waste of our tax dollars. Taking staff time for Dawn’s political agenda. How much more of this will we have to endure during election season. I would only vote for her for Assembly to get rid of her here, unfortunately that would seem to just make things worse. Sad that the state is redistricting to include Santa Cruz, but I’m sure they will have plenty of candidates from their area.

Translation: Help councilwoman Addis as she runs for state assembly with a meaningless resolution that has zero impact on the city of Morro Bay.
