Kamala Harris says she will not run for California governor in 2026

By KAREN VELIE

After months of contemplating a run for Gov. Gavin Newsom’s seat, former Vice President Kamala Harris announced Tuesday she will not run for California governor in 2026.

Harris plans to announce, in the next few months, her future plans. She has not ruled out a run for president in 2028.

Kamala Harris’ announcement

“Over the past six months, I have spent time reflecting on this moment in our nation’s history, and the best way for me to continue fighting for the American people and advancing the values and ideals I hold dear.

“I am a devout public servant, and from the earliest days of my career, I have believed that the best way I could make a difference in people’s lives and fight for a better future was to improve the system from within. And it has been a profound honor to do that work and serve the people of California and our nation—as a prosecutor, attorney general, U.S. senator, and vice president.

“In recent months, I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their Governor. I love this state, its people, and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election.

“I have extraordinary admiration and respect for those who dedicate their lives to public service—service to their communities and to our nation. At the same time, we must recognize that our politics, our government, and our institutions have too often failed the American people, culminating in this moment of crisis.

“As we look ahead, we must be willing to pursue change through new methods and fresh thinking—committed to our same values and principles, but not bound by the same playbook.

“For now, my leadership—and public service—will not be in elected office. I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans.

“In the United States of America, power must lie with the people. And we, the people must use our power to fight for freedom, opportunity, fairness, and the dignity of all. I will remain in that fight.”

I can’t wait to pick up her book “107 Days” at the local dollar store in about six months.

I attended meetings with her several times when she was attorney general and each time I came away thinking “How the hell did she make it this far?” Uninterested in her duties and uninspiring in her performance as AG and yet she kept rising to higher office. We used to have thoughtful and qualified politicians from both parties. Now we have a clown show.

Heh – think everyone knows how she made it so far…

Try to imagine the humiliation of being Joe Biden’s Vice President. That’s got to hurt eesay.

Sorry I’m late, but let’s just call it: Kamala Harris not running for governor is the best decision she’s made in years—and it probably wasn’t even hers.

California’s falling apart—people can’t afford to live here, crime’s up, the middle class is fleeing—and Kamala was actually considering jumping in like some kind of savior? Please. This is the same politician who built a career mastering the art of showing up, saying nothing, and leaving before the hard work starts.

She says she “reflected deeply”? More like someone finally told her the state doesn’t need another performative figurehead checking boxes for a future presidential run. California’s in crisis. We need serious leadership, not someone whose biggest talent is vanishing when things get complicated.

So yeah—her sitting this one out isn’t just a relief. It’s a damn public service.

Violent crime is down by 6% in California and has persistently fallen for many years now. In fact, Californians in 2024 are experiencing less than a third of the crimes per resident reported in 1980 and just two-thirds as many as they experienced in 2006. But, no matter how much disinformation you spread, Democrats will continue to control this state until the Republicans come back to earth and abandon the MAGA nonsense.

Sure, violent crime is officially down 6%—but only if you ignore the part where Oakland overcounted assaults by 138%, LA and San Diego barely turned in their homework, and the state said ‘close enough’ and published it anyway. It’s like claiming you lost weight because you stopped stepping on the scale. Before we hang a ‘Mission Accomplished’ banner, maybe we should make sure we’re actually counting the crimes first.

I guess you didn’t live through the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s because crime rates were far higher then than they are now. Yes, some parts of the state are worse, but that’s more a reflection of the economic demographics than a reflection of what happens in Sacramento.

Sure, crime was worse in the ’70s and ’80s — no one’s denying that. But we’re not running a nostalgia tour for high crime rates. Just because things used to be worse doesn’t mean we should lower the bar for what’s acceptable today.

It’s like saying, “Hey, don’t worry about the leak in your roof — the whole ceiling collapsed back in ’82!” Cool story, but we still need to fix the roof.

Yes, economics play a big role — absolutely. But Sacramento isn’t just watching from the sidelines. They set the laws, the budget priorities, and the tone statewide. If something’s broken, it’s fair to ask what they’re doing about it now. We can’t build a safer future by leaning on excuses from the past.

Good. She’s a doofus. Go away.

“We have been unburdened by what has been, ya’ know”

-Word salad vomiting wino

Ah yes, reminds me of a Ben diagram…

I could count in the hundreds the word salads that have come out of Trump’s mouth, so your critique falls flat. Sorry, but thanks for playing.

Hundreds? LMFAO Madam Trask!!!!

Quote one. Bring some tangible evidence along with your statement. Nevermind, YOU CAN’T!!!!

Here’s a few from your girl Kamala:

-“Culture is — it is a reflection of our moment in our time, right? And in present culture is the way we express how we’re feeling about the moment,”

-“I love Venn diagrams. I really do, I love Venn diagrams. It’s just something about those three circles and the analysis about where there is the intersection, right?”

-“I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people, you think you just fell out of a coconut tree,” suddenly breaking into a wild cackle. “You exist in the context of all in which you live and what you came before you.”

-“So, I think it’s very important, as you have heard from so many incredible leaders, for us at every moment in time — and certainly this one — to see the moment in time in which we exist and are present, and to be able to contextualize it, to understand where we exist in the history and in the moment as it relates not only to the past but the future,”

To think…she was almost our president!!! AMERICA DODGED A BULLET.

Here you go:

She destroyed the city of San Francisco. It’s — and I own a big building there. It’s — no — I shouldn’t talk about this. But that’s OK. I don’t give a damn because that’s what I’m doing. I should say it’s the finest city in the world — telling ‘Get the hell out of there’ — right? But I can’t do that. I don’t care. You know. I lost billions . . . billions of dollars. You know? Somebody here . . . ‘What do you think you lost?’ I said, ‘Probably two-three billion.’ They said, ‘You think you’d do it again?’ And that’s the least of it. Nooobody . . . They always say . . . I don’t know if you know . . . Lincoln was horribly treated . . . Uhhh . . . Jefferson was pretty horribly . . . Andrew Jackson, they say, was the worst of all . . . that he was treated worse than any other president.”

“Silence of the Lamb’. . . Has anyone ever seen ‘The Silence of the Lamb’? The late, great Hannibal Lecter, is a wonderful man. He oftentimes would have a friend for dinner. Remember the last thing? ‘Excuse me, I’m about to have a friend for dinner.’ And this poor doctor walks by, . . . ‘I’m about to have a friend for dinner,’ but Hannibal Lecter. Congratulations! The late, great Hannibal Lecter. . . . We have people . . . that are being released into our country, that we don’t want in our country . . . .”

Well, I would do that, and we’re sitting down here . . . I was, uh, was Senator Marco . . . Rubio, and my daughter Ivanka was so . . . impactful on that issue. It’s a very important issue . . . but, when you talk about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about . . . that . . . because . . . the child care . . . is child care. Couldn’t . . . uhh . . . it’s something . . . You have to have it. In this country, you have to have it.”

And plenty more.

No one else could use so many words to say so little.

Too bad, I believe she was the best chance of getting a Republican Governor.

You’re absolutely right!!!

She would have guaranteed a sure win for any republican running against her here in CA. I’m truly bummed she’s not running for governor of CA.
