The California Central Coast leads in percentages of homeless students.

With 16% of its students unhoused, Monterey County is ranked number one followed by Santa Barbara County with 12.1% of homeless students. At 9.1%, San Luis Obispo is ranked fifth for its large number of homeless students.

Statewide, California saw a 9% increase in homeless students during the 2024-2025 school year, according to EdSource.

For three years, from fiscal year 2019-2020 through fiscal year 2021-2022, homeless student numbers in California declined approximately 6% per year.

Then in fiscal year 2022-2023, the number of homeless student began increasing:

  • Fiscal year 2022-2023 – a 9.08% increase
  • Fiscal year 2023-2024 – a 12.61% increase
  • Fiscal year 2024-2025 – a 9.26% increase

Throughout California, higher costs of living lead to a larger number of homeless students

When the educational cartel teams up with homeless industrial complex nothing they say should be trusted

We might be able to help a struggling REAL AMERICAN student with an open room near Poly but how can we assist any individual without insight as to the afflicted and how to locate them?

Derp

It’s too early. Derp to myself.

Not sure how or why I connected this homeless student issue to college students.

WE cannot house a family.

Been here 30 plus yeats and i have NEVER seen a child in the streets. Don’t believe those stats for one second. Yet another, attack on the poor, by the rich.

Probably because you have been in the central coast bubble Karen… …just because YOU don’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exists….

These aren’t riverbed dwellers. This is 5 families with school age kids, crowded into a 3 bed house, who do not claim a residence due to “issues of their legal migrant status”. Leftist passed laws say their kids MUST go to school (on taxpayers dime), regardless of migrant status.

When you have illegal parents without homes, you have children without homes. Thus, homeless students, The solution is simple.

When you imagine a population of people, say the homeless, to be homogeneous group of “illegals”, when any statistics class will say any population is divided amongst many subgroups, you probably didn’t take a math class or your opinions are skewed by views on race.

Solutions are simple I guess when you apply logic in this manner.

Crazy Bob panhandling on the street corner, is not a student, and is NOT the homeless guy being counted here.

Common sense Yawny, I know it’s an area you lack in.

2.3 million illegals in CA, 187,084 homeless in CA….I’m sure you’re really good at math so sum it up.

These 2.3 million illegals are absorbing a large number of homes, apartments, condos, ect.

Getting rid of illegals here in CA will free up thousands and thousands of homes giving U.S.CITEZENS more housing opportunities.

FACT, FACT, FACT!!!!!!

I would be curious if this could be examined more carefully. Failure to provide shelter and housing could also be defined as parental neglect. The child is also the victim here, and my first question would be, did the parent exhaust EVERY avenue to provide housing? And are these stats being conflated with those fleeing spousal abuse and seeking shelter in a safehouse (eg, women’s shelters)?

Homeless people want to live in good weather and where the hand outs never end… if you make homelessness easy you will get more of it… I heard a stat that California has 50% of the nation’s homeless living inside California….

Yes Rambunctious, you hit the nail right on the head. Along with the outrageous amount of illegal immigrants holed up here in CA driving the housing crisis up along with a high demand of low income housing (also partially consumed by illegals), is causing many CA U.S. citizens to be homeless.

As of 2023 there are estimated 2.3 million illegals in CA, Im sure it much higher but this is the state online.

In January 2024 a homeless population of 187,084.

Illegal immigrants have definitely caused a large part of the homeless problem here in CA, you’re an dolt if you think not!!!!

“Do NOT feed the animals,” has a significant underlying meaning.

Learn it.

P.s.

Not you, personally.

The reading public in general was my intended audience.

What percentage are illegal aliens?

2.3 million illegals in CA as of 2023, I’m sure it’s much higher.

187,084 was the homeless population as of 2024…there was no statistics i could find on the population of illegals that are homeless.

Get rid of the illegals and there will be more available housing for our homeless U.S citizens, FACT!!!

We’re #1! We’re #1!

By all means we need to funnel more taxpayer fund into addressing the homeless issue without any accountability, yeah that will fix the problem.
