North County man arrested after armed standoff

October 23, 2011

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man who fired a rifle at deputies before barricading himself in a garage in rural Paso Robles on Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after 3 p.m., deputies responded to calls that Aaron Macay Henson, 32, was in a garage on the 1800 block of Santa Ysabel Road and threatening to kill himself.

Deputies attempted to coax Henson into laying down his weapon and surrendering. Henson responded by firing shots over the heads of deputies.

The deputies did not return fire and Henson surrendered at about 4:45 p.m.

Really? Another Fireman miss-hap?? Come on County, why are you hireing all these crazy firemen?

I hope the Sheriffs have “what went right” meetings, so they can make some notes for future use. I am cautiously optimistic that our new Sheriff is having a positive ripple effect on his crew….

Mr. Henson should consider himself very lucky to be alive. It seems to me that if you level, let alone fire, a gun at law enforcement, you will be met with lethal force. I am just pleased to hear no Deputies were injured. Kudos to our Sheriff’s Office and the employees involved!

Slow, The only reason Henson isn’t dead is the Deputies were told he was a fireman.
