Maldonado for Lt. Governor?

November 23, 2009

ableCentral Coast state senator Abel Maldonado, R- Santa Maria, will be nominated by Gov. Schwarzenegger to be California’s next lieutenant governor. The governor made the announcement Monday evening during a TV taping of “The Jay Leno Show.”

The vacancy in Sacramento was created when John Garamendi was elected to Congress earlier this month.

Maldonado’s appointment is subject to state Senate confirmation and political observers caution that this is far from a done deal. Three members of the current Senate have already declared their intention to seek the office in 2010.

The Sacramento Bee provides analysis.
