The women’s boyfriends paid human smugglers to bring them to the United States from Mexico.
The smugglers brought the men and twelve others across the border and then held them at gun point in an Arizona home while they proceeded to make ransom demands. After the Paso Robles women received a call demanding money in order to keep their boyfriends alive, they reported the incident to police who then forwarded the tip to federal immigration agents.
On Dec. 1, agents successfully raided the Arizona home. While most of the hostages where returned to Mexico, a few will remain in the United States in order to testify against the smugglers.
