State AG asked to investigate Palin speaking fee

April 8, 2010

California Attorney General Jerry Brown is being asked to investigate the circumstances surrounding an upcoming speech by Sarah Palin at CSU Stanislaus. [California Watch]

Palin, the former GOP vice-presidential candidate, is scheduled to speak in Turlock on June 25, the 50th anniversary of the founding of the university. The event is being funded through the school’s private foundation.

However state Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco] claimed Wednesday that he has a “smoking gun” that Stanislaus officials are deliberately hiding public documents that reveal how much they agreed to pay the former Alaska governor.

Palin is rumored to be getting in excess of $100,000 for her appearance.

Yee is calling on the attorney general to investigate, saying that it is illegal for state agencies to enter into confidentiality agreements about the spending of public funds.

A spokesperson for Jerry Brown confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Neet stuff here!

I see differing views with varied capacity and perception thresholds.

But one thing I see clearly is that NO one thus far it too separated from your higher self.

It is a pleasure for me to see this.

Don’t let the thumbs down invaders fool you.

Your sincerety, your enlightenment and your truthful courage, though they may differ are very very valuable.

This is just an extension and continuation of what will result in full blown grass roots political and social warfare. Sarah Palin and all the other apoplectic opportunists are desperately trying to turn the United States into a High-Definition Jesus Tele-Theocracy of Perpetual NASCAR.

Republicans running to ally themselves with the followers of hate-monger entertainers like Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and the Fox News gang is only the beginning of the process that will lead to a huge political convulsion – soon. And when it comes, it will be a completely incoherent conflict. The guerilla forces of the radical right will not know whether they are fighting for WalMart, the Financial Services arm of General Electric, against abortions, for bigger and better freeways, the rights of thoracic surgeons to drive families into bankruptcy, against the idea of climate change, against evolution, against Jews-in-the-media, or simply their neighbors having something they feel envious about.

The fun is just beginning.

So Ms. Palin is being reimbursed by a private Foundation. What’s the smoking gun again? Somebody needs to get a hobby.

Bet if they substituted Palin with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Sen. Yee would stop crying.

Mahmoud Ahmadinjad and Sarah Palin are not even in the same intellectual galaxy. She is the Cindy Sheehan of the Republican Right… So I would imagine your comment is correct. But he wouldn’t stop crying because the speaker wasn’t a conservative republican, he would stop crying because at least the speaker might be actually be able articulate something intelligent.

This is political muck-raking pure and simple. An offer to appear was made, a speaking fee was paid, private funds are being used (the foundation is a sole entity and therefore not subject to any political intervention by the party in power or any legislative oversight). So the Hon. Mr. Yee needs to learn a few things about the law – especially since he’s been elected to make ’em. He claims to have a ‘smoking gun’ – I question what Mr. Yee is smoking. If the Palin camp doesn’t want the fees disclosed that’s their business. Just because some non-disclosure agreement was made doesn’t equate to a smoking gun, Mr. Yee. And if it was $100K for the honorarium, was a crime committed? OH – that’s right – if a GOP wonk is paid to speak, that’s a crime – sorry – momentary lapse of left-think.

I wonder if such an investigation would be happening if Bil Clinton was paid $100K to appear. That’s his normal fee for such an appearance. Of course he wouldn’t be as relevant these days…

I guess it is cause for an investigation every time a conservative is invited on a college campus… and — gasp! — if they get paid anything.

Let’s take a look at little Cal Poly… the nearest I can see they get somewhere around $40,000 from one part of the administration’s budget and I am only aware of roughly $500 going to a so-called conservative speaker… who by the way represents an impartial organization (F.I.R.E.). So, from what I can see… no real money at Cal Poly goes to conservative speakers…. so what is your gripe?

By the way, Stalin felt that Hitler was on the right path with socialism… so taking it from this expert, Fascism is a lefty thing.

Get over it.

Roger Freberg

Fascism is a lefty thing wow. so when did Stalin express these feelings? before or after the winter of 43? And ur telling everyone that these guys with arm bands and a Christian Nationalist comic (Blut und Boden). type fellas are LEFTIES???……. (Blut und Boden).

Palingenetic Ultranationalist Populism is the best definition IMHO because it incorporates Sarah’s name! but I digress; here is one expert among many

FDR: “The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism — ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power.”

The left-right political paradigm is outdated, does not sufficiently describe the characteristics of political movements, and has not been used in any serious intellectual writing on politics in over 20 years.

No real money? How about he half a million donation from corporate slaughter house feed-loy giant Harris Ranch who then threatened to withdraw the donation offer if an opposing viewpoint speaker (Michael Pollan) lectured there about the problems with their monopoly on corporate beef/food/corn-fed industry? That is extortion and political blackmail!-ask Harris Ranch what there political affiliaation is…I’ll bet you can guess-

Wow, so much HATE from some open minded ‘liberals’. BTW Cindy, fascism is a political philosophy of the left. Always has been always will be. But if you bothered to read a book you might know that.

“Fascism, which was not afraid to call itself reactionary… does not hesitate to call itself illiberal and anti-liberal.”

_Benito Mussolini

anyone who thinks fascism is “liberal” is looking down the wrong end of the telescope .

“Fascism is a form of extreme right-wing ideology that celebrates the nation or the race as an organic community transcending all other loyalties. It emphasizes a myth of national or racial rebirth after a period of decline or destruction. To this end, fascism calls for a ‘spiritual revolution’ against signs of moral decay such as individualism and materialism, and seeks to purge ‘alien’ forces and groups that threaten the organic community. Fascism tends to celebrate masculinity, youth, mystical unity, and the regenerative power of violence. Often, but not always, it promotes racial superiority doctrines, ethnic persecution, imperialist expansion, and genocide. At the same time, fascists may embrace a form of internationalism based on either racial or ideological solidarity across national boundaries. Usually fascism espouses open male supremacy, though sometimes it may also promote female solidarity and new opportunities for women of the privileged nation or race.”

Mike – Start reading,

Fascism, , is a political ideology that seeks to combine radical and authoritarian nationalism with a corporatist economic system, and which is usually considered to be on the far right of the traditional left-right political spectrum.

fascism – a political theory advocating an authoritarian hierarchical government (as opposed to democracy or liberalism)

I did say : “far right fanatical fascist”

Why are libs so angry all the time?

Threats of right wing violence have doubled in the past year. What is behind the latest upsurge in the movement to create a Christian theocratic state?

WHO is angry???-look at those mobs of screaming insulting teabaggers runnung around America spreading hate, fear and poison-creating hysteris-that’s fear and anger =crazy….

Yikes, 100k for a dim witted idiot to speak at an institution of higher learning, what an oxymoron.

To all you far right fanatical fascist giving hotdog the thumbs down. I’d like to split this country down the middle, you get Sarah Palin, no questions asked and then we will all anti up in 5 years, winner takes all.
