Diablo Canyon Power Plant activates emergency plan
June 23, 2010
In response to an accidental release of carbon dioxide, a chemical used for fire suppression, officials at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in Avila Beach activated the emergency plan Wednesday morning.
Nevertheless, there are no reports of damage to the facility and the plant is continuing to operate.
The unintentional release occurred during a release testing operation in an area used to store lube oils.
As part of the activation of the emergency plan, control room personnel have taken charge of the plant and some officials have been dispatched to emergency facilities throughout the county. In addition, officials have closed Montaña De Oro state park.
