Settle, who has served on the council in some capacity for 30 years, instead announced his intention to endorse Jan Marx for the upcoming mayor’s race against Paul Brown.
Settle said he was afraid that running this time might split the vote with Marx, given their similar constituencies, and allow Brown to win.
Meanwhile, a grassroots campaign continues to try and convince former city councilwoman Kathy Springer Smith to run for mayor. Smith, who served on the council for four years back in the ’90s, recently announced her intention to seek a city council seat.
Sources tell CalCoastNews that pressure is being put on Smith to run for mayor instead.
