August 13, 2010
This coming week on the Central Coast will be a favorite for music lovers of all genres.
The musical fun kicks off Friday night at Chumash Casino with B.B. King and Buddy Guy. The “King of Blues” and the longtime Rock n Roll Hall of Fame member will perform a show for the 18 and older. Tickets are available for $55 through $115. The show starts at 8 p.m.
After a full night of great music, take the kids over to Templeton for a kid’s day at the Jack Creek Farms. The farm will offer various activities for children to enjoy that will teach them about farming and “old time skills.” Planned events including learning how to churn butter, creating a corn husk doll, playing on a haystack and petting farm animals. The fun kicks off Saturday at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. A $6 prepaid wristband is needed for each child to participate. For more information visit jackcreekfarms.com or call 805-238-3799.
After a long afternoon on the farm, enjoy a date night on Monday by catching a movie at the SLO Art Center. The center will show “Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman,” a movie about the life and career of architectural photographer Julius Shulman. The movie, narrated by Dustin Hoffman, has won awards at the numerous California film festivals. The show starts at 7 p.m.
Tap into your inner musician and pull out those old love songs from high school for a songwriters showcase at The Clubhouse at This Old House Restaurant and Bar. The restaurant hosts a songwriters showcase every Tuesday night. Each showcase features four song sets by five performers and a 45 minute set by a more established artist. The event, open to all ages, starts at 7 p.m. For anyone wanting to start the fun early, a pre-show happy hour is available with $3.50 pints. Happy hour starts at 3 p.m.
Gain a little knowledge on Wednesday by attending the presentation of UC Berkeley’s presentation on attracting bees at Emerson Community Garden. The presentation will discuss the study’s findings and the different ways the researcher found a person could attract pollinators. The event is free and will be held at the City/County Library Community Room. The presentation begins at 5:30 p.m.
Get ready for your next weekend the same way you started this one: with a great concert at Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez. The casino will host Billy Idol Thursday night. Tickets prices range from $55 to $105. The show starts at 8 p.m.
