Confessed child serial killer Mack Ray Edwards helped build an overpass west of Santa Barbara shortly after Ramona Price went missing in 1961.
In 1971, Edwards received the death penalty after he confessed to killing 20 children. He hanged himself in a San Quentin prison cell a year later.
Before his death, Edwards told some of his fellow prisoners he had buried his victims in the dirt under roads while working as a machinery driver. Several of Edwards’ victims have been uncovered during freeway excavations in the Los Angeles area.
Last Wednesday, cadaver dogs alerted police to an area of interest, the Santa Barbara Independent said. The search could take several days.
