Weekend spotlight: Arroyo Grande Valley Car Sho
July 28, 2011
Brush off the old Chevrolet Bel Air, fill up the gas tank and lace up your dancing shoes because the Central Coast has everything from concerts to a car show to offer this weekend.
As part of Arroyo Grande’s Centennial Celebration, the town is hosting it’s 22nd Annual Arroyo Grande Car Sho (yes, “Sho”) on Saturday.
The car show, hosted by the Arroyo Valley Car Club, asks attendees from north and south to meet in the middle and show off muscle cars, hot rods and old school classics. There will be various activities throughout the day, as well as trophies for Best In Show, the Major’s and the President’s trophies, among others.
To rev up the excitement pre-show, on Friday night there will be a Friday Night Cruise.
OneWay BoardShop in Santa Maria will be hosting “Midnight Madness” skate contest also on Friday night. The event will also feature a concert, sale and tarp surfing.
Tarp surfing simulates getting barreled by a wave while surfing, but instead, the person is on land and simply skates through a large, suspended tarp. Mixing getting barreled on land with a huge sale and a free concert, what more could a surf/skate enthusiast want.
Another type of enthusiast, those who prefers fine dining, will surely not want to pass up what El Colibri Hotel is offering on Friday night.
The Cambria hotel is cooking up a three-course meal of the freshest cuisines. Each course is paired with a local wine and is served in the Colibri Wine Bar, which hosts a featured musician to make the dining experience enjoyable.
Friday is the last chance to attend this stop of the “Wine and Food Tasting” tour, which has been cooking up the three-course each Friday in July.
Also, if you have yet to make it up to the Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, the Main Grandstand welcomes the chart-topping country trio Lady Antebellum with Troy Olsen on Thursday and Chicago with Earl Klugh on Friday.
Chicago is one of America’s first successful rock bands — coming in number 13 in Billboard Magazine’s recent list of the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists. The band’s appearance at the fair is part of the annual Evening of Music and Wine at the fair.
The music doesn’t stop at the fair, on Tuesday night in downtown San Luis Obispo MO|TAV and HLGN are teaming up to get the bars pulsating with electronic house music.
Dubbed PULSE, the event is the first night of this soon-to-be monthly occurrence which is aimed at pleasing the 21 plus crowd looking to dance Tuesday nights away.
