Alexander named new director of County Arts Council

September 1, 2011

Charlotte Alexander has been named executive director of ARTS Obispo, the San Luis Obispo County Arts Council, effective Sept. 1.

Alexander replaces Marta Peluso who stepped down last June after five years of heading up the nonprofit organization.

ARTS Obispo is the designated county partner for the California Arts Council and serves as an advocacy group dedicated to advancing the visual, literary, and performing arts on the Central Coast.

Events organized by the Arts Council include the monthly Art After Dark tours in downtown San Luis Obispo and the countywide Open Studios Tour each October.

Alexander, a resident of Nipomo, has been active in the county nonprofit community for more than 20 years in both executive and volunteer positions. She was CEO of United Way of SLO County from 2004 to 2007, and most recently was executive director of the SLO County Emergency Medical Services Agency. Elected in 2010 as a trustee of Cuesta College, Alexander has taught journalism and public relations at both Cuesta and Cal Poly.

A welcoming reception will be held for Alexander on Friday, Sept. 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. as part of Art After Dark in the Arts Obispo gallery at The Creamery in downtown San Luis Obispo.

Maybe she could do an OP-ED about art funding (lack of) in these tough times. I’ve always heard of the “starving artist” but now it must really be difficult. How does the art scene look in 2011 going into 2012?

Besides, any OP-ED that isn’t about the Fire Dept. or Government would be welcome.

I hear that Ms. Alexander is pretty bright but I’ve heard that her old man is a little goofy :)

Good luck Charlotte!

LOL, That was cute.
