Man killed in Nipomo hit and run

May 14, 2012

A man walking along the northbound U.S. Highway 101 off ramp near State Route 166 was hit and killed by driver who fled the scene on Sunday at about 1 a.m.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver of  late-model dark blue Chevrolet Corvette. The Corvette sustained major damage including a damaged right front fascia, front bumper, hood, broken windshield and missing hard top.

Officers believe the driver, who fled north along Thompson Road toward town after running over the pedestrian, probably lives in the Nipomo area.

Anyone with information is asked to call CHP at (805) 593-3333.

Or he waits a day and drives the car to a rural area of Santa Maria lights it on fire with an accelerant and nows where he has done it will take some time to be noticed. Then by the time fire dept arrives most evidence is destroyed although they still have ways to ID the owner of the car. The challenge will be placing the individual in the drivers seat when it happen. Time will tell. I think they are doing a thorough investigation and want to do it right.

Shall we start a poll on how long it takes to arrest this guy/girl?

I’ll take

Identify Monday (May 14) 8:30 pm

Arrest Tuesday (May 15) 10:00 am

The detectives from “Law and Order” would screen Nipomo DMV records for blue ‘Vettes, canvass the neighborhood, and have the perp in the interview room before the first commercial break. What’s the hold-up?

Key word; “probably”. As if the person in question lived in Nipomo because he headed North. How about Pismo, San Luis Obispo, or Salinas, or?

Dark blue colors at night wouldn’t draw that much attention if he stayed in the correct lane relative to the damage until his/her final destination.

I was thinking along those lines too Ted. He would have been foolish to IMMEDIATELY continue his planned route out 166 as an example because it would be very fresh in the cops minds on that route. Sometimes I think they throw people off the scent with suggestions such as this but, again they’re the experts so we shall see!
