Fire extinguished at student housing near Cal Poly
January 7, 2013
San Luis Obispo firefighters extinguished a fire Sunday at a student housing complex near Cal Poly.
The “suspicious” fire started on top of a mattress in a vacant, locked bedroom at Stenner Glen apartments, the San Luis Obispo Fire Department says.
Firefighters responded to the fire around noon and found thick, black smoke billowing from a second floor bedroom. The fire department said the fire could have spread to multiple bedrooms of the 54-unit student housing complex.
Twenty-five emergency personnel, four fire engines and one ladder truck responded to the fire. No injuries occurred.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Cal Poly students return to class Monday for the beginning of the Winter Quarter.
