Faced with allegations of numerous former homeless service employees, as well as ex-boyfriends of Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo’s Homeless Services Coordinator Dee Torres, CAPSLO officials now say they launched an investigation — and have completely exonerated Torres.

CalCoastNews reported on Monday that a handful of homeless service employees and several of Torres’ ex-boyfriends say she routinely took gift cards intended for the needy and homeless for her own use. Employees and former clients have also said that CAPSLO case management has failed to return money it holds in trust for some of its clients.

At Thursday night’s CAPSLO board meeting during public comment, Donald Dana asked the board to have an outside investigation look into the allegations raised by CalCoastNews.

CAPSLO Board President Frances Coughlin responded saying, “I want to assure everyone here that the leadership team has evaluated the allegations. They have all been proven false. No misuse of gift cards or client funds.”

CAPSLO’s leadership team is comprised of its seven program managers which includes Torres. The team appears not to have called any of the sources listed in CalCoastNews series on homeless services.

Wow, years worth of accusations, investigated thoroughly in mere minutes! Do we have wonderful people in our government or what?

Surprise, surprise, surprise the person in charge of hiring, promoting and retaining Dee supports her. If Ms Steinberg comes out against Ms Torres, then Ms Torres will start talking about things that Ms Steinberg wants kept quiet.

It obviously pays well to have a County Supervisor for a fiance.

I wonder if they voted her a raise, too?

Do they take gift cards at the beauty shops these days? Just sayin’.

i would venture that them looking themselves is somewhat self-serving. can they prove that everything is arm’s length?

Ho hum, I’m waiting for the independent investigation likely in process. The jail is full of people claiming to be innocent and some are.

Evaluate:

1: to determine or fix the value of

2: to determine the significance, worth, or condition of usually by careful appraisal and study

Investigate:

1: to observe or study by close examination and systematic inquiry

2: to make a systematic examination; especially : to conduct an official inquiry

So they carefully appraised the allegations? I sure wish they would have conducted an official inquiry (or at least a systematic inquiry). I’d feel much more confident in their “leadership team” (whatever that is).

I would like to note a key phrase used earlier: “our elected officials…” Elected officials can become “Un-Elected” officials in a heartbeat. Remember all of this come election time. Or, pass around a petition and have them impeached. It can be done if enough people sign. I would; and I plan on voting for anyone (and I mean ANYONE) who runs against Adam Hill, John Ashbaugh, Dan Carpenter or Jan Marx. If anyone steps up next year, you have my vote. Also, there is still the OIG investigation of Lisa Nieson going on. I have a feeling if that bird feels trapped–she will sing!
