motorcycle crashA motorcyclist suffered trauma to his leg Monday after a driver crashed into his bike in San Luis Obispo, throwing him into another vehicle.

San Luis Obispo resident Phillip Jones, 21, was riding his motorcycle westbound on Foothill Boulevard Monday around 4:50 p.m. when an 18-year-old female driving an SUV attempted a left turn into the Mustang Village apartment complex. The driver of the SUV did not see Jones coming prior to making her left turn and crashed into his motorcycle.

The crash threw Jones into another vehicle waiting to turn out of Mustang Village and onto Foothill Boulevard.

Responders transported Jones to a local hospital with significant trauma to his leg. Jones did not report any other injuries, and the leg trauma does not appear to be life threatening.

San Luis Obispo police and fire departments responded to the collision. Police say alcohol and drugs did not appear to factor into the crash and that the collision did not appear to be criminal in nature.

They should really make it a crime to turn into a motorcycle. It just might deter some drivers that did not know it is something that they should not do. It would go nicely with 21801a CVC.

With all the texting while driving going on, I’ve never felt better about burning lots of gas in my SUV. I don’t think riding a motorcycle is a smart way to move yourself from point A to point B anymore. Put away the Harley; your body will thank you and so will your neighbors.

Not criminal in nature, just obliviousness. She could have been distracted by her phone, or just too anxious get across the road. Hope he heals quickly, and she learns a lesson to “really” look before she leaps!
