Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries are courting gay customers by coming out with labels in support of same sex marriage. [LA Weekly]
The producers of Same Sex Meritage, a Sonoma grown red table wine that is sold in stores in Chicago, donate $1 out of every purchase to Freedom to Marry, a campaign to legalize same sex marriage nationwide.
Stand Tall Wine Co. has followed suit by donating 1 percent of all sales to the Napa LGBTQ Project. Stand Tall, which sells a pinot noir, encourages gays to support gay businesses.
“The queer community can feel good about supporting a gay business and helping their fellow queers,” Stand Tall writes on its website. “The rest of you can assuage your liberal guilt by supporting a small business and helping others.
Other wineries that donate money to same sex marriage charities include Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, which offers a variety of red and white wines, and Egalite, French for equality. Egalite sells a sparkling red.
