San Luis Obispo police responded to a home in the 200 block of Hathway Avenue Wednesday afternoon where they found a male student dead. One roommate was home at the time of the incident.
Police Lieutenant Bill Proll told the Mustang News that officers view the death as an “apparent suicide,” but the investigation is ongoing.
Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong confirmed that a student died in an email to the campus community Wednesday evening, but did not reveal the identity of the person.
“Today we learned that one of our fellow Mustangs passed away at an off-campus location,” Armstrong wrote. “This is devastating news as we begin a new school year, and our thoughts during this time are with those most affected by this situation.”
Fall classes at Cal Poly began Monday.
