Nipomo man pleads to sexual battery
October 24, 2013
A man who pled guilty to sexual battery in the attempted rape of a Nipomo woman is slated to be sentence to 180 days in San Luis Obispo County Jail on Wednesday.
Christobal Hernandez Lopez Sr., 65, a former Nipomo Food Basket volunteer, will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
In 1997, Lopez was convicted of felony annoying/molesting a child and was ordered to register as a sex offender. However, his record was expunged after he completed rehabilitation.
In 2012, Lopez went to dinner in Pismo Beach with a 52-year-old Nipomo Food Basket co-volunteer. The pair then walked on the pier and kissed before the unnamed woman invited Lopez to her house for tea.
While in the kitchen, Lopez began groping the woman who asked him to stop, according to court records. Lopez continued, pinned her down, removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her. He then finished his tea and left.
“I’m sorry. I let God, you and myself down. I hope you can forgive me,” Lopez said in a text message the next morning.
The woman initially agreed but later changed her mind and reported that Lopez had sexually assaulted her.
