Atascadero police are looking for the person or persons who vandalized the Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial grounds on New Year’s Day.
Shortly after 10 a.m., a witness called to report that a 1980’s red Chevrolet pickup truck was driving through the memorial crashing into benches and lights. The truck drove of before police arrived.
“On behalf of the Council, I am saddened to hear about the damage done to the Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial this morning,” said Atascadero Mayor Tom O’Malley in a press release. “We ask for the community’s continued response in providing the Police Department with any information they may have regarding the incident.”
The damage to the memorial has been initially estimated at $15,000.
