Will Muslim prayer bring California rain?

MosqueMore than 100 members of a California mosque gathered at Folsom Lake Saturday to pray for rain. Within minutes, sprinkles began to fall. [Fox 40]

“We came out here today basically asking god to bless us with rain,” said Basma Marmosh of the Muslim Community of Folsom. “It’s something very small and basic.”

The light rain occurred as members of the Muslim Community of Folsom prayed on a tarp they placed next to the east side of Folsom Lake.

Even though, sprinkles fell at the lake Saturday, they did not amount to significant rainfall, according to the San Juan Water District.

Last week, the district asked customer to stop outdoor water usage due to the ongoing drought. The district is now considering declaring a water emergency.

I always thought that we don’t pray for things to happen; rather, at best we pray that we (as individuals praying) can better ourselves and live a more spiritual life.


It is odd to me when I hear that someone is praying for an act to occur. Pray for rain? I’m pretty sure that is not how it works; then again, He is the greatest mystery of all.

This alleged godly act of Allah, not the Hebrew God of the Christians, would have been more noteworthy, if that is even possible relative to religious conviction, if the Muslim community had given a specific date one month in advance. It’s too easy for anyone trying to make a statement like this to see if “possible rain” is forcasted the next or following day.


In any event, if the Muslims want to proffer that it did rain subsequent to their prayer, then Allah is playing a mean trick on them for only “sprinkling” the heavens upon Folsom Lake.

I’m not Muslim, but I have been in enough Islamic countries to know that they don’t refer to God with a small “g”. That typo in the quote should be fixed. Small point, but it shows respect. Just sayin’…..

They, the local people of Afghanistan, have a name for some of the special op teams operating there, those that are bearded and come in the night and kill women and children, along with men with no connection to terrorism, all in the name of the war on terrorism. Do you know what it is they are called? If not let me enlighten you: American Taliban.


How many Muslim in the world Mr. Slander? Over 1.5 billion or about 23% of the worlds population! And you, and those like you, would be just fine, or maybe gleeful, if they were all JUST collateral damage in this war? I think so. If for no other reason than to proclaim God had answered your prayers to make Christianity the only religion of the world. Sad….

CAUSE AND EFFECT.


First cause: USA getting involved with attacking Iraq in first war Desert Storm. Effect: Muslims eventually retaliating by attacking the homeland and the Twin Towers. 2+2=4.


Barring the collateral damage to BOTH SIDES in the USA attacking the Mid East FIRST, my position holds in NOT giving the primitive concept of the Allah god any respect whatsoever. Period! If you want to give respect to Allah in any way and the Quran with it’s Jihadist doctrine, then so be it. The Hebrew God of the Christians, and the DIFFERENT Allah God of the Muslims, are both to blame in the killing!

How do you explain the terrorist attacks on 9/11? Muslims had no hand in it whatsoever? Really? If so, what conspiracy theory do you follow? Were those aircraft that flew into the Trade Center radio controlled drones by the USA? Was the plane that flew into the ground in Pennsylvania controlled by drone pilots, or Muslims?


Granted, some entities of 9/11 don’t add up, but the fact seemingly remains that Muslims, and Osama Bin Laden, were responsible for 9/11. If you have empirical and documented evidence to the contrary, then produce it!


For the rest of your response, your circular reasoning is entertaining only to your likeminded cohorts, but does not hold water in a true discussion and is to be ignored.

I have a say in this just as you do, with as much vigor as you do, with as much conviction as you do. This banter of yours above is circular reasoning at its finest, and I won’t take the time for it.


Yes, “seemingly” leaves it open to entities that don’t add up like I stated and DOES NOT equal circular reasoning in any way whatsoever. Learn the proper use of the term for future reference.

Bye-the-way all arguments, which is exactly what we are doing here, are circular in their very nature as they almost always come back to the main point of the argument. While I may do it redundantly that in itself doesn’t make my reasoning faulty.


But, you have my permission to use the “circular reasoning” defense in not answering my real point: what we are now doing to Muslims is no better than what we condemn them for doing to us.


I’m not ignorant to which god Muslims worship and pray too, all I was eluding to was they are free to pray to any God, or god, they wanted to, as the rest of the religious folks in this country are.


You’re absolutely right, using “seemingly” in conjunction with “fact” in the same sentence does not constitute “talking in circles”, my bad! But, using “seemingly”, which is defined as “…in appearance but not necessarily in actuality” in conjunction with “fact”, which is defined as “…something that actually exists; reality; truth.” in an argument, well, just negates that portion of your argument.

Does the Hebrew god Yahweh call them to prayer everyday and to face the East while doing so? NO. Does the god incarnate Jesus want the Muslims to kill Christians as is proposed in the Quran’s passage in question? NO. Can you tell me about Afghanistan? I’ve been there, getting shot at by the real Taliban. Have you? If not, and I’m sure the answer is no, then STFU about it. I’ve met our bearded operators in theater, and they’re not a bunch of homicidal monsters out to “kill women and children.” Whether you like to admit it or not, those men and all the U.S. military personnel keep you safe to spout ridiculous, uninformed nonsense. Quit spewing anti-American progressive talking points. My point in my first post is that if an American Muslim references God in English, the capitalization of the g is a given. The typo is silly and should be corrected. I can draw a distinction between the bad guys and people who happen to be Muslim. And my experience includes significant amounts of time in two Muslim countries, with travel through several more, so I feel somewhat confident in what I say. I think you need to educate yourself, you really do. You also need to apologize to all the U.S. military personnel you’ve insulted with your brain-dead twaddle.

No, I have not been to Afghanistan, and it matters not whether one has or hasn’t been there to engage on this particular topic if one uses logic, reason, and historical fact, of which I expect you to use by NOT using the same tactic of “circular reasoning” that jrstone has used. You are to be honored that you served our country, but subjectively, subsequent to the Tora Bora campaign where we didn’t get Osama Bin Laden, for whatever reason, we should have gotten out post haste. If anything, send in special operations like Obama did with Seal Team Six into Pakistan and/or the use of drones to specific targets without using thousands of troops, for what?


You are NOT going to change the Muslim mind set from over 3000 years of following, although skewed, their Islamic religious doctrine! Therefore, once we leave Afganistan, absolutely nothing will be changed. They will go back to the status quo, and you know this to be fact. Hamid Karzai is corrupt, a turncoat, and wants the US out of his country ASAP and has stated that the Taliban, WHOM YOU FOUGHT, will be brought back into government! Therefore, this war was all for naught when the last US troops leave.


Apologize to the US troops for what? Surely you jest. The only apology that would be worthwhile, is to apologize to them for needlessly being sent over to Afghanistan in the first place!

If you want to show respect to the Islamic god of Allah, as you’ve alluded too above, whose Jihadist doctrine was followed within the Quran that killed your fellow brethren in Afghanistan, then by all means, feel free to do so.


The irony is that if you do, then it is YOU that needs to apologize to the U.S. military personnel you’ve thrown aside in showing respect for Allah, whose doctrine was the impetus to 9/11 and the killing of US troops in Afganistan!

The muslim god is the god of Abraham

It matters not, because Allah contradicts the Hebrew God of Abraham, and Jesus too if one considers Jesus to be God incarnate as many divisions of Christianity so believe.


Allah, Yahweh, and Jesus/God have their own writings, respectfully, the Quran, Talmud/Torah, and the Judeo-Christian Bible New Testament, which said writings ALL contradict each other!


Within these writings, in part, we have the Hebrew God Yahweh who contradicts the assumed Christian God of the New Testament because He says in the Talmud that Jesus is NOT God, nor the Son of any God. The holy writings of the Talmud reject Jesus as God, Divine Being, intermediary between humans and God, Messiah or Saint..


Then you have the Muslim God Allah, who blatantly contradicts the Christian and Hebrew God in the Quran. In part, Allah commands the Muslims to; “not to make friendship with Jews and Christians” (5:51), “kill the disbelievers wherever we find them” (2:191), “murder them and treat them harshly” (9:123). Disbelievers are those who do not accept Allah’s Quran which includes Jews and Christians.


Deducing it to its irreducible primary, all godly writings of the aforementioned God concepts blatantly contradict each other, therefore, it cannot be the same God that inspired them all.


What an alleged “One God Concept” said once, he couldn’t have said in many different and blatantly contradicting ways in the holy writings of each of the religions mentioned above!


With a discerning eye, if one studies the many man-made Gods of the biblical era, and in the even further past, one can see that different countries had their own provincial God as evidenced above.


In part, the Hebrew God, which erroneously for the Christians turned into the Christian God in the New Testament, vouchsafes this biblical fact in many, many passages, one being; Exodus 20:3; “You shall have no other gods before me.”

While the Bible does not put a prerequisite on the direction we pray in, other than “everywhere” as God is Omnipotent, it does tell us how often:


1 Chronicles 16:11 “Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.”


Luke 18:1 “And he spoke a parable to them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”


Colossians 4:2 “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;”


1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.”


1 Timothy 2:8 “I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.”


Pretty demanding, huh?


And as far killing non-believers:


Deuteronomy 13:6-9 “If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying: Let us go and worship other gods do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people.”


Deuteronomy 17:3-5 “And he should go and worship other gods and bow down to them or to the sun or the moon or all the army of the heavens, …..and you must stone such one with stones and such one must die.”

2 Chronicles 15:13 “All who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.”


I use these keeping in mind that Jesus himself said:


Matthew 5:17-18 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (the Old Testament) until everything is accomplished. ”


Matthew 23:1-2 “Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: ‘The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you.”


And from a country that most profess Christian belief’s I would ask how me miss the following:


Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”


Matthew 6:9-15 “This, then, is how you should pray: ” ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”


Mark 11:25 “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”


But I guess these matter not, because as I have seen, and am guilty of, Christians are great at “cherry picking” their way through the Bible to fit their needs and/or justify their actions. In that spirit I’ll end with this:

There are benefits in this drought. Validating the need to fund a connection to the State Water Project will come into focus when our communitie’s local water supply is good and the State has none. Big benefit!
