February 25, 2014
A 19-year-old Paso Robles man is in critical condition and his friend is in jail after a solo car crash early Sunday morning.
At approximately 1:24 a.m., 22-year-old Isaac Daniel Byers was driving westbound on Highway 46 near Golden Hill Road when his vehicle left the roadway, hit a tree, went down 20 feet and landed entangled in a chain link fence. Firefighters and paramedics cut the fence away to free Andrew Phillip Kunz from the wreckage using hydraulic rescue tools.
Paramedics transported Kunz to trauma center at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo where he remains in critical condition. Byers was able to free himself from the wreckage.
Byers was taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Police then arrested Byers for driving under the influence causing injury and booked him into the San Luis Obispo County Jail with his bail set at $100,000.
