February 27, 2014
Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of involvement in the November shooting of a former Cal Poly football player in San Luis Obispo.
Deputies arrested Brian Gonzales in Hayward on Friday. Gonzales is currently in San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, accessory and other unlisted offenses.
On November 21, 2013, Cal Poly student and former football player, Geoff Hyde, suffered a gunshot wound in the back during a botched drug deal, according to San Luis Obispo police. Hyde, 22, underwent emergency surgery, and two suspects fled.
Gonzales, a Castro Valley resident, is one of the two suspects, according to San Luis Obispo police. The other suspect is described as a black male in his 20s who is approximately six feet tall with a lanky build.
Police suspect the unidentified suspect of having pulled out a handgun and shot Hyde during the drug deal. The shooting occurred in the 400 block of Buena Vista Avenue in a neighborhood near Cal Poly.
