Around 5:20 p.m., a man walked into the Chase Bank in the 8000 block of El Camino Real, told a teller he had a gun and ran away after taking some cash. The robber was described as being Hispanic with white makeup on his face. Witnesses said he fled in a green vehicle.

Shortly after the robbery, officers spotted a matching car and stopped the vehicle. They surrounded the car with guns drawn for about 45 minutes until the suspect climbed out of the trunk and surrendered.

Officers arrested the suspect around 6 p.m. near the bank he had allegedly robbed. They also arrested a woman who was driving the alleged get-away car.

Atascadero police are working with the FBI to determine if there is a connection between Thursday’s robbery and two South County bank robberies that have occurred in the last 30 days.

A robbery occurred in the Pismo Beach Bank of America on March 21 and in the Arroyo Grande Bank of America on April 3. Both Bank of America robberies occurred around 6 p.m.
