Nonprofit Laton Animal Rescue and Care holds adoptions in front of Petco in the 200 block of Madonna Road on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. The nonprofit was wrapping up its event Saturday afternoon when a thief fled the scene with Belle, a five-pound poodle-terrier mix.

Belle had a $250 price tag. She is described as small, white and fluffy.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department is investigating the theft but says it does not have any credible leads. Investigators are working with Petco to determine if any surveillance footage of the incident exists.
