School out, court closed as brush fire nears Lompoc

A brush fire that broke out in a canyon south of Lompoc Tuesday afternoon has burnt 700 acres and caused evacuations of 1,300 residences. [Lompoc Record]
The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of San Miguelito Canyon Road and spread toward the city of Lompoc. The blaze caused Lompoc Superior Court to close Tuesday afternoon, and it prompted Lompoc High School to become an evacuation center.
The Lompoc Unified School District also canceled its board meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening.
Officials have reported no injuries so far as a result of the fire, and no homes have yet been burnt. Numerous fire crews have responded to the fire.
As of Tuesday night, the fire remained largely uncontained. It is unclear when firefighters expect it to subside.
