Around 6:30 a.m., an approximately 150-pound black bear ran onto southbound Highway 101 near Broad Street. The truck driver tried to stop, but could not avoid hitting the bear, according to a CHP report.

California Fish and Game wardens responded to the scene and removed the bear from the highway. CHP officers said they had previously received reports of a bear in the area but never managed to find one.

The black bear that died was actually brown in color.

The driver did not suffer any injuries but his truck did sustain moderate damage.

Country living has been difficult for wildlife during this drought. They are here, in town, for food and water. Be careful with your pets as they may become a tasty dinner or injured over a food fight.
