Two really dumb burglars
August 8, 2014
Deputies are searching for an Oceano woman suspected of carrying a stolen purse near a home she had burglarized and an Arroyo Grande man is in jail after he was spotted on video using a stolen credit card.
On Wednesday, a couple returned back to their vacation rental and spotted a woman a few doors down carrying a purse they had reported stolen the day before. An argument ensued and law enforcement was called.
Amelia Ora Covington, 33, fled into a house on the 300 block of McCarthy Avenue in Oceano and then slipped out the back. Deputies searched the home and found thousands of dollars worth of stolen jewelry, clothing and makeup.
Covington now has a warrant out for her arrest in connection with that burglary.
In another burglary from a vacation rental in the Oceano area this week, a thief pilfered purses, credit cards and money. Deputies tracked use of one of the credit cards to a local convenience store.
A store video shows Chase Ross Twomey, 26, of Arroyo Grande using the stolen credit card. During a subsequent search of his residence, deputies found more stolen credit cards, an iPhone and a laptop.
Deputies booked Twomey into the San Luis Obispo County Jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm, burglary and receiving stolen property.
