The California Highway Patrol has identified a man who died in a single-car crash in Cambria on Monday as 84-year-old Walter William Glaser.
Glaser was driving on Orville Place near Orville Avenue when his vehicle drifted off the road and hit a tree stump around 10:05 a.m., according to the CHP. He suffered blunt force trauma to the head and torso, and emergency responders transported him to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators say Glaser was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was likely under the influence of alcohol. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Glaser was a longtime resident of the North Coast and a member of Friends of the Cambria Library. He also helped with a fundraising effort to purchase the Fiscalini Ranch Reserve in 200.
