Santa Margarita fire burns three homes

Update 10 p.m. Approximately 500 people have been been evacuated from homes in the Park Hill’s Road area of rural Santa Margarita. Two structures have been completely destroyed. At this time, the fire continues to move east with no containment, according to Cal Fire.
Original: By 8 p.m. on Saturday, the Park Hill Fire had burned more than 1,000 acres and at least three homes east of Santa Margarita.
At about 2:30 p.m., the fire broke out on Las Pilitas Road off of West Pozo Road, which is four miles southeast of Santa Margarita. The fire has burned several structures including three homes.
Mandatory evacuations on Las Pilitas Road from Park Hill Road to 3851 Las Pilitas Road, Park Hill Road from Las Pilitas to two miles east, and Park Hill Road from Las Pilitas Road to 7 Oaks. An evacuation center is set up at Santa Margarita Elementary School. The American Red Cross is staffing the evacuation center.
Officials said they hope to have the fire 50 to 60 percent containment by Sunday morning.In the firefighters favor, the winds are very light.
The fire is currently moving eastbound away from Santa Margarita.
