Police arrested a security guard at a marijuana dispensary Friday on suspicion of murdering a 30-year-old woman who grew up in Morro Bay.
Last month, Carrie Jean Melvin was walking with her boyfriend in Hollywood when a gunman shot and killed Melvin and then fled in a black car. Melvin’s boyfriend was not hurt.
On Friday, police arrested Ezeoma Obioha, 31, after investigating him for several weeks.
Melvin moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in the entertainment industry after studying film and digital media production at University of California Santa Cruz. Her family still lives in Morro Bay.
Melvin had been working as a waitress while she developed a social media and internet consulting business.
Obioha had hired Melvin to produce online promotions for a security or clothing business. Melvin then threatened to sue Obioha after a check he wrote her for a few hundred dollars bounced or was canceled.
