John Peschong announces run for SLO County supervisor

Small business owner and political strategist John Peschong announced Tuesday that he plans to run for the San Luis Obispo County District 1 supervisor seat. Peschong will be campaigning to replace Supervisor Frank Mecham, who announced plans to retire earlier this year.

“After receiving encouragement from local leaders, I have decided to dedicate much of the next year to running for a seat on the Board of Supervisors,” Peschong said. “Based on the outpouring of support that I’ve been so fortunate to receive over the past week, I expect to begin serving the people of San Luis Obispo County in 2017.”

Peschong has served the community as a member or supporter of many local organizations including the Templeton Education Foundation, Paso Robles Children Museum, Art for Children, Cattlemen’s Association, SLO County Farm Bureau and the local 4-H. He is also the former President of the Central Coast Taxpayers Association and Lincoln Club of San Luis Obispo County, and spent nearly a decade as a gubernatorial appointee to the Mid-State Fair Board of Directors.

John Lacey, one of the area’s most influential leaders, said he plans to serve as Peschong’s honorary campaign chair.

“John Peschong is by far the most qualified candidate for San Luis Obispo County Supervisor,” Lacey said. “He understands that by supporting agriculture, the number one economic driver on the Central Coast, he is creating a better place for every resident of our county to call home.

“His experience with numerous local organizations, namely the California Mid-State Fair, proves to my wife Dee and I that he has what it takes to stand up for the people of North County.”

To date, Peschong has received endorsements from a host of Central Coast leaders including San Luis Obispo County Assessor Tom Bordonaro and supervisors Debbie Arnold and Lynn Compton.

“There is no one who has demonstrated a deeper level of commitment to this community than John Peschong,” Bordonaro said. “He is a proven leader who as supervisor, will continue to use his principles and make independent decisions for the wellbeing of his constituents.”

Peschong is joining Paso Robles Mayor Steve Martin, Paso Robles Councilman John Hamon and Dale Gustin of Paso Robles in the race for the District 1 seat.  District 1 includes Paso Robles, San Miguel, Templeton, Heritage Ranch and Oak Shores.

Peschong lives in Templeton with his wife, Anna, and their two children.

If Peschong wins the District 1 seat, he would likely team with supervisors Arnold and Compton to form a conservative majority. Mecham is a Republican, but he has been a swing vote between conservatives Arnold and Compton and liberal supervisors Bruce Gibson and Adam Hill.
