Drug use suspected in Atascadero crash

ambulance 4The Paso Robles man responsible for a traffic collision that stalled traffic on Highway 101 in Atascadero for more than an hour Monday was arrested for driving under the influence of a drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At about 2:33 p.m., James Edward Johnson, 35, of Paso Robles was driving a Chevy pickup northbound near the Santa Barbara Road exit at unsafe speed when into crashed in the back of Kylie Ann Dillard’s KIA Sephia causing his truck to roll. Dillard, 21, was not injured in the collision.

Emergency personnel transported Johnson, who was suffering from major injuries, to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo. Officers arrested Johnson at the hospital for driving under the influence of a drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
