Creston man killed in Highway 58 crash identified
September 12, 2016
The California Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a crash east of Santa Margarita on Friday as John Elton Suhrke, 69, of Creston.
At 4:15 p.m., Suhrke was driving eastbound on Highway 58 in a 2007 Kia when his vehicle left the south side of the roadway and rolled over. The crash partially ejected Suhrke, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The Kia went over an embankment, and Suhrke suffered blunt force trauma.
Responders pronounced Suhrke dead at the scene. There were no witnesses to the collision.
Suhrke was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and no other cars were involved in the crash. Initial reports that indicated the victim was a passenger in the vehicle that crashed were incorrect.
