Body recovered from Pismo Beach identified as Oceano woman
November 22, 2016
Pismo Beach police have identified the woman found dead in the surf at Shell Beach as 53-year-old Amy Leach of Oceano. Leach worked as an advisor at the Family Partnership Charter School in san Luis Obispo.
Shortly after 7:20 a.m. on Monday, Pismo Beach police responded to the beach near Silver Shoals for reports of what appeared to be a body rolling in the surf, police said. With assistance from Cal Fire, officers brought Leach to shore.
First responders then attempted to resuscitate Leach, but were unsuccessful.
Primary reports from an autopsy performed Tuesday reveal Leach likely died from drowning in salt water. However, the exact cause of death is still pending the results of a toxicology report.
As of Tuesday evening, the Pismo Beach Police Department is still investigating Leach’s death as suspicious.
