Was SLO Mayor Heidi Harmon’s pride flag torched?

It appears that San Luis Obispo Mayor Heidi Harmon was the owner of the home where a gay pride flag was allegedly stolen and burned, according to several sources.

On Thursday at 9:52 a.m., a resident on the 1200 block of Mill Street called to report an act of vandalism. Officers described the incident at the time as destruction, damage and vandalism of property, according to an arrest log.

On Thursday afternoon, the police department reported in a press release that someone had burned a gay pride flag within the city limits, but did not give any other details about the alleged incident. Instead, the department spoke about reporting hate crimes and the department’s commitment to inclusivity, according to the press release.

In the police log posted earlier today, instead of listing the specific property address as is typical, the department listed the vandalism as having occurred on the 1200 block of Mill Street.

Police department staffers and Harmon have failed to respond to questions about the flag burning. It is unclear if the mayor or the LGBT community was the target of the vandalism.

While Harmon and city officials remain closed lipped regarding the alleged vandalism, Harmon has posted multiple videos and photos of gay pride flags on social media. On her Instagram account, she posted a video of herself waving a large gay pride flag in the air.

Who cares about a flag?


Why don’t you get your ass in gear and get the city budget in order.


Last month it was the firefighter video and now this.


How much tax payer $$ and time do you need to waste?

If you have taken a look at the under funded pension liability you would see the$hit has already hit the fan, Harmon just refuses to so anything to fix and instead just turns the fan so it is aimed at the taxpayers.

I am sorry that I voted for you, Heidi Harmon. Your priorities are seriously screwed up. I thought you would do something about the horrendous lack of affordable housing and lack of living wages. The police department is incredibly corrupt. You don’t give a damn about the disabled, the homeless, or the working man/woman. All you seem to care about is your politically correct tourism and precious “Fag Flag”.

Don’t forget the huge unfunded pension liability, Harmon also is ignoring this, in fact she is doing more to increase the problem and just kick it down the road. I guess her idea is to just make it someone else’s problem in the future.

I’ve always said you should never elect political activists to office because they come with an agenda.


And once someone is elected, like it or not, they MUST represent ALL the people, and not just those who donated to them, or who share a political philosophy. Activists are also less likely to be willing to compromise or give ground in order to keep a city functioning.


Heidi Harmon is about the biggest activist going right now in the entire county, so SLO voters shouldn’t be surprised by her priorities, her actions or her political leanings. It’s not like she was an unknown, hell she ran for State Assembly, twice I think.


Take solace in the idea that Mrs. Harmon will likely challenge Cunningham in the next State Assembly election, she has ambitions.

What a bunch of nonsense.. is the fuss over the theft of private property or that a flag was burned, because flag burning as a symbol of protest is Constitutionally protected speech; even when the flag is the symbol of a protected class of “special angel babies.”

Has an arrest been made? If one was, I cannot believe that the perpetrator’s mug shot hasn’t been emblazoned on every local “news” agency’s website/FB page?

A part of me wonders if this was not staged by the Mayor in order to gain attention, sympathy and to take the focus off real issues – like the city’s ever growing indebtedness. Perhaps in league with the police chief, who is lesbian. As a gay man , I am not disparaging the chief just making a statement of fact.

Cities indebtedness should be the top concern. But Heidi did not become Mayor to solve the pension liability. She won on social issues and we can go down the tubes because she can just tax us all to death like Jan Marx believed.

In part she won because people were tired of Jan Marx and her “pay to play” mayoral ship and not because they thought Harmon would be any different, as we have seen, but just wanted Marx gone and Harmon was their only other choice.

Look to any city in OR, WA, ID, NV, AZ and they all have the same problems now, that they left behind. But, in reality the liberal ideas they moved with have set in and become someone else’s problem now…

As a native SLOian and having lived there for 60 plus years, the best decision I made was to move out of this now infested rat hole. Politics corrupt, finances bankrupting the City under the leadership of an inept City Manager, incompetent City Mayor and now the election of a Socialist Mayor, the streets are congested, mom-pop stores gone, water and wastewater rates out of control, Cal Poly students dominate the downtown with their bars, crime on the raise due to the major homeless issues and this City thinks a stolen Gay flag, burned in the street, is the major crime of the Century! This City is so out of touch with reality… I am sitting back and watching how long it takes before it collapses as their PERS (public employees retirement system) is about to collapse. Katie Lickit, how could you forget to pay the contributions for two years???

Nope, still in SLO County, still concerned with the corruption and deceit of the Democratic Party and want to sit back and watch events unfold. My bet is that you enjoy Harmon for two years and then you will have a new mayor. PS… love my new location, open roads, decent water and wastewater rates, cost of my new house on a 1/2 acre, limited regulations but still see the corrupt politicians, guess they are everywhere in California!

As one who grew up in the 60’s, oh yes we had the best music and cars, I’m watching what is going on in SLO. We have all of this hate and anti this and anti that going on. We have a government that doesn’t want to enforce some laws. We have the legal marijuana coming on line. People protesting about anything and everything and expecting everything for free. We have government amassing huge unfunded liabilities. I’m just waiting to see if SLO is going to be the new Haight Ashbury. If Janis Joplin was still around maybe I could buy into it but not as it is today.
