Man struck and killed while walking in Paso Robles, driver flees

A driver fled the scene after striking and killing a 22-year-old homeless man who was walking on Highway 101 in Paso Robles early Thursday morning. [Cal Coast Times]

At about 5 a.m., Nathaniel J. Weatherly, 22, was attempting to walk or run across Highway 101 near 13th Street when he was struck by a vehicle driving southbound, according to the CHP.

The driver fled the scene without notifying law enforcement or emergency personnel. Responders pronounced Weatherly dead at the scene.

Weatherly had attended Paso Robles High School, according to his Facebook page. It is unclear what he was doing on the highway

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the fatal collision to call the Templeton CHP office at (805) 434-1822.

My son somewhat knew this kid. He said that Nathan had a easy-going type of personality and was cool to hang out with. I’m so sorry for Nathan’s family right now, this is a horrible thing to deal with.


As for him running across the highway, I don’t know why he attempted to do it but I remember some of the dumb things I did when I was his age, so I can’t fault that against him. I just wish the driver who hit him would’ve attempted to call for help or something-that could’ve made all the difference.


Running across the freeway. Blame someone else.


Nobody is seeking to BLAME the driver for hitting him. However, it appears that some people don’t have the compassion and common sense to know that if you hit someone, YOU STOP, because you might be able to save their life. This mentality you have is shockingly common in this county.
