Mayor Heidi Harmon

Touting the benefits of electric-only homes, San Luis Obispo Mayor Heidi Harmon released a video Tuesday morning that features a Los Angeles Times article on pollution associated with gas appliances. However, Harmon failed to explain that the article referred to improperly vented gas appliances, and not all gas stove usage.

Harmon, who worked previously as a maid and as an assistant at a preschool, plans to help the community “understand the full breadth and depth” of using gas appliances at Tuesday evenings City Council meeting, she said. Michael Hicks, a contractor with Peoples’ Self-Help Housing, supports Harmon’s assertion that banning gas appliances is needed to protect public health.

“I don’t think people realize, I didn’t, that when you have a gas stove, for example, you are polluting your own home,” Harmon says, while a photo of the LA Times article, “Cook with a gas stove? You could be breathing polluted air, study says,” appears on the video.”

According to the study, scientists with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found that 62 percent of households using gas burners without venting range hoods are exposed to excessive levels of nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and formaldehyde. While the levels do not exceed air quality standards, they can exacerbate health issues.

“Luckily, there are simple ways to limit your exposure,” according to the LA Times article. “First, use a range hood. Even a moderately effective one will substantially cut concentrations of pollutants in your home,’ researchers said. ‘Cooking on the back burners can help too, because they sit directly under the ventilation system.”

Now all’s clear. Harmon didn’t know sniffing around a gas stove was bad, so after years of doing that, we now know why she’s so nutty. Gas sniffing! Indeed, she needs to save us all.

I spent a whole career worrying about electric system reliability and putting Humpty Dumpty back on the wall. Remember the August 1994 HWY 41 fire. I got to restore the system twice that day. I should probably take the SLO Councils decision to eliminate gas in new construction as a personal compliment for keeping the light on for 31 years. But, for the life of me I can’t understand why anyone would eliminate a source of heat and energy to your building knowing full well that your power could be out for days.

Let me see here , I moved away , Is there a reason the city of SLO thinks She is one of the smartest people in SLO, a Ex cleaning lady ..ok ok Yeah I get it someone hand me that Joint .. Oh Brother. Will someone enlighten me .. Boy Boy hmm..Such a smart woman Good Luck with that Sammy.

Graduated from Cal-Poly with a BA Degree, that’s takes some doing, and some smarts, doesn’t it?!

I think the article left some things out, like Mrs. Harmon’s complete education, to elicit a certain response. Why? I don;t have a clue. But, I don’t think it was right to mention only her past jobs (and implying they were menial) while not mentioning her education.

She is also a wife and mother, and maybe, just maybe, she see’s the bigger picture that doesn’t necessarily include her but will definitely impact her kids, and there’s, and there’s, and so-on and so-forth…

A wife? Are you kidding? Not!

Reading the previous comment, please tell me what in the world Trump has to do with a ridiculous city council in San Luis Obispo…. Watch out, pretty soon it’ll be your little lap dogs because they’re polluting the air.

Because it’s the Pervert’s supporters who are the loudest about this “misrepresentations” while ignoring the pervs’ continuous lying, that’s how! Something they need to be reminded of every time they call out someone for while accepting it from one of their own.

And I never thought anyone would out do that wacky SLO council person, Shirely Bianchi I think, years ago that questioned why the city was hiring additional personnel when there was a hiring freeze on because she saw a request to add “2 computer servers”. Goes to show you SLO city has always had some odd leaders. No need to look at Chief Cantrell’s illegal actions check what the other hand is doing………magicians old trick.
