San Luis Obispo County’s unemployment rate climbed in December as the region lost approximately 800 jobs amid Gov. Gavin Newsom’s stay-at-home order, the state Employment Development Department reported Friday.

Layoffs prompted by California’s shelter at home order drove the county’s unemployment rate up to 6.7% in December, from 5.5% in November. In December 2019, the jobless rate was 2.5%.

Over the past month, significant job losses were seen in the food service and drinking places sector which lost 500 jobs. On Dec. 3, Newsom’s order shuttered indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants in the Southern California Region.

While most sectors recorded declines, the retail trade sector noted an increase of 300 jobs likely spurred by Christmas gift buying.

San Luis Obispo County is ranked seventh out of 58 California counties for lower numbers of unemployed workers. SLO County’s unemployment rate is lower than the national average of 6.5% and the state’s 8.8% rate.

No SLO county workers have been let go due to Covid, in fact “In accordance with the Families Frist Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), all employees have been given up to 80 hours of additional sick leave to use until December 31, 2020. On December 15, 2020, the Board of Supervisors voted to extend these provisions through the end of the local declared emergency.”

And isn’t that the reason for the shutdown. To destroy livelihoods and make them subjugates of the state. That’s right out of the progressive bible.

Thank goodness there hasn’t been any unemployed from government or even any salary reductions, however would we little people survive without our huge government with their outrageous salaries and benefits.

derasmus

All government employees should be volunteering to take a substantial pay cut for 18 months. 10 percent for rank-and-file and 15 percent for managerial.

Red or Blue, doesn’t matter who.

Blue or Red, taxpayers dead.

Locally, statewide, nationally, do fiscal conservatives even exist?

Shocked in MB

The perfect storm-Minimum wage increase to 14$/hour, Corona Virus+ Idiot Governor, = California Disaster.

Gov Null Sum had to work hard to create ways to destroy the Calif economy. The economy kept fighting back and then he said “well lets destroy it in big chunks by combining dissimilar regions of the state together” .

We have the most stringent restrictions in the country and yet, per 100,000 residents, we are one of the worst in cases (worse than Florida and Texas where there were very loose restrictions) and almost THE worst per capita in administering the Corona Virus shots.

You notice that politicians always raise the minimum wage during great economic times and then say that unemployment went down even though they raised the min wage. Then during recessions businesses dump those wage earners first because of the high costs.

Some day this state will realize that if it was not for the weather and ocean, this state would cease to exist as a viable place to live politically. We would not have to worry about ocean levels rising since this state would become totally buoyant because there would be so few people living here.

And now the new administration wants to fashion their policies after California.

Good Luck with that!!

I am very thankful that I haven’t had to work in a public setting during this entire pandemic .Food service definatley a risky job .During the housing bubble and crash folks learned to make money in a different line of work to survive even if they did not actually possess any of the skills they needed .. Pandemic has created even more creative ways for folks to survive ….the old saying. “Don’t put all your eggs in the same basket ” couldn’t be more accurate…. I paid 2.28 a gallon for gas in NV earlier this week ….Biden has already eliminated 20k jobs, the pipeline and border wall construction …Going to be a long 4 years

Gas is $1.91 gallon in Tulsa, Oklahoma and you can buy regular without biofuel. OK has inexpensive fuel options good for small engines, and with occasional use, cleans up other engines. Less pollution and fuel consumption when engines operate efficiently. Like them or not, internal combustion engines are necessary in certain applications.

Also agree on pipelines. If you don’ like oil and gas, tax the stuff and use $ raised to pay down our national debt.

Sad to hear. My heart goes out to all of the families and businesses struggling to make ends meet.

Thank you Governor Newsom. I’m sure you haven’t had your income, provisions, and comfort interrupted. I also notice that your winery and other businesses have faired well and even benefited from China virus stimulus funds. Your more than deserving of a recall. Your just another typical example of the political Progressives elites than really don’t care about the hard working and over burden taxpayer.

You and many of the same ilk, have taken advantage of this crisis while imposing these unconstitutional restrictions on businesses and families which has led to the unemployment and in many cases lives lost due to stress, depression, suicide, and substance abuse. That’s on you. All the while, living and ruling as an appointed king.

Rambunctious

Damn…and now with gas prices on the rise…and soon food prices will follow….

JThomas

Don’t blame me, I didn’t vote for either of them.

Cartels and Monopolies are illegal, so is price gouging in America. Your dollar is your vote, and your Hancock is your ballot. Let us not forget. Saudis, Iran, Russia and China can have cartels and Haneous economics and Politucs, vile dictators, not us, if we buy domestic its dictated by ethical economics. The feds have been busting people upselling PPE, food, etc, Gas is the same. We have a surplus always on many things, like oil and gas, too much energy options hence a dying fossil fuel industry. There should be No Cartels or Monopolies.

commonsenseguy

What about lying and manipulating of data and science that Newsom has done which has led to these numbers. Seems to be the work of a vile dictator leading the California Democrat Cartel. It appears may they have a lot in common with Russia and China by your own analysis.
