Multiple people injured in planned head-on crash in Atascadero

By KAREN VELIE

Atascadero police accused a man on Sunday of assault with a deadly weapon after he crashed head-on into another vehicle, allegedly on purpose, causing a three-car collision and multiple injuries.

Shortly after 10 a.m., multiple callers reported a Silver Subaru had been driven recklessly and into opposing traffic in what appeared to be an attempt to cause a head-on collision. The driver of the Subaru then allegedly caused a three car crash on Highway 41 on the west side of Atascadero.

Multiple ambulances transported patients to local hospitals, including the suspect driver who suffered major injuries.

CalCoastNews will publish additional information after it becomes available.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact the Sgt. Jeff Wilshusen at (805) 461-5051.

Wow. Reading the local news these days has me shaking my head. Our crime blotter is beginning to look as violent and out there as some big city line up of nut jobs acting out. I know this has been a stressful time, but seriously! Must be showing my age here, but my recollection of the difficult times of my youth was of our country pulling together and doing what we could to help each other get thru whatever was put before us.

We didn’t begin to question taking a vaccine during a pandemic. Protecting our community was considered part of good citizenship. We didn’t whine about our “rights” when asked to take precautions to avoid things like spreading infection. We didn’t go berserk over having to make adjustments to expectations in a difficult situation. We stood up and took care of business because that is what a good citizen did.

I shake my head when the same people who called the liberals “snowflakes” when they objected to obnoxious behavior are now losing their minds over losing an election, while finding it impossible to adjust to the adversities we now face. Not wearing a mask because “God will protect them” (which doesn’t seem to be working all that well), heedless of the danger to others from infection, while needing a loaded gun to express their opinion or feel safe just about anywhere they go.

And if things don’t go their way, they just dial up the crazy. Some of you may feel that all this sort of self expression is just fine, but I do not see these escalating current events as an improvement, having experienced a much more functional time for comparison. Sometimes, being happier can be a function of knowing you are a part of something larger than yourself that benefits everyone, not just a select few or just you.

I’m sorry, but the last three paragraph’s have nothing to do with this nut trying to kill people by crashing into them. Very strange.

Your question was “What would drive somebody to do this?” If the story above is not an example of dialing up the crazy, what is? Simply paying attention to both the feed of news lately and the comments offered should prove my point.

What the hell would drive somebody to do this? Please take his license away forever. I pray all recover including the criminal who caused it, and they lock him up for as long as possible, while seeking help for what must be a mental or drug addiction issues. Life is tough enough on the road these days without a nut trying to purposely kill people by crashing into them. Remember to always drive defensively.
